Christmas "meeting of the Varna
U.C.W. A pot luck slipper
preceded the programme in the
gaily decorated Sunday School
room.
Mrs Reta Upshall , was
presented with a lovely
arrangement of dried floArs,
and Mrs. Ida Godkin with the
book "Lines to Live By". These
valued members have recently
moved to Hayfield and Clinton
respectively.
Margaret Hayter' opened the
worship service with a poem
"The Star of Bethlehem".
Mildred McAsh showed' two
filmstrips, "How We Got our
Christmas Carols" with the
members joining in singing the
carols, and "A Great and Mighty
Wonder" which was the
Christmas Story beginning with,
the Old Testament prophecies.
Elva Webster gave a reading,
"Treasure Boxes."
Marjorie Stirling presided for
business. Reports were given by
the secretary, Mona Stephenson
and the treasurer, Margaret
Hayter. Helen Taylor prespted
the report of the nominating
committee, with all offices filled
for the new year except that of
vice president. A donation will be
sent to the Children's Aid
Society, and Christmas boxes for
shut-ins will be packed on
,December 15 at the home of
Margaret Hunt. Donations of
cookies etc. frem members would

Hensall teams were on a
loosing streak last week .Midgets
game was cancelled. Atoms lost
to Brussels 11 - 0 in spite of good
work done by Steve Bedard
goal-tending. Only nine players
were out and all were uneasy due
to the stormy weather. The next
game will be played in Hensall
against Milverton on Friday
night.

A former Hensall resident
Estella (King) wife of the late
William R. Davidson died in Port
Colborne General H ospital in her
85th year on November 30th,
1976;
Surviving is one son Allan
Davidson, Port Colborne;
grandchildren Brian and Cindy
Davidson, and Mark and Faye
TVIZCormick, all of Port Colborne.
One sister, Mrs. StevO'art (Sadie)
McBurney and a brother Ross
King, Wingham, also survive.
Predeceased by one brother,
Percy, and one sister Lavina
(Mrs. Alex Leater).
Funeral service was held on
Friday at 2 p.m. at the R.A.Currie.
and Son Funeral Home,
Wingham, Interment followed in
Wingham Cemetery.

Except for one man who tried to
vote three times, things were
pretty quiet at the polls in Hensall
on Monday. Clerk Bob Heil said a
low 53.03 per cent of the voters

Mr. E. G. Archie Noakes of
Hensall died in South Huron
Hospital, Exeter on Wednesday,
December 1st, 1976 in his 90th
year.
Surviving is his wife, the
former• Annie Richardson, sons:
Leonard, Hensall; Lloyd, London;
Kenneth, Waterdown; one
daughter, Mrs Fiances Siemon
California. One daughter, Mrs.
Earl (Helen) McKellar,

their Family Day on Sunday,
December 5th in the hall with the
program first, followed by supper
at 5, Over 60 people were in
attendance.

Mrs. Minnie Hayter's home
Varna has been sold to Miss
Joyce Scott of Hayfield, who is to
get possession on Dec. 20. A sale
of household articles is being held
this coming Saturday in the
township shed.
Mrs. Florence Elliott,
accompanied by her son Ross and
his fiance, spent the weekend in
Toronto with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce
Elliott and Erin. On Saturday
evening they had dinner in the
beautiful Ben Hur dining lounge
near Hamilton.

Christmas reading and Mary Lou
Anderson played several
Christmas selections on the piano
and electric organ.
Steven Bos gave a recitation on
"My Grandfather's Whiskers"
and Darlene Hulley favored with
a solo "Silent Night".
A sing song of several
Christmas carols was conducted
by, Betty Finney, with Ella Jewitt,
playing the
Susan Jamieson played two
numbers on the piano.
, A pot luck supper was enjoyed
after which Santa Claus
told some,storienand sang a song
which everyone enjoyed and gave
out candy treats to the children.,
A surprise birthday party was
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
John Wammes on Saturday
evening for John. Those
attending to help him celebrate

December 1, 1976 at the Hensall
Bean Pot. A delicious dinner of
roast beef was served during the
active dinner session. The• raffle
was won by Wayne King of

Rev. W.D.Jarvis conducted
service in Carmel Presbyterian
Church on Sunday celebrating th
second Sunday of Advent. Mrs.'
MalcomDougall presided at the
organ and led the choir in the
singing of the anthem. The
flowers in the church were placed
in loving memory of the late Mr.
Archie Noakes by his family. Holy
, Communion will be celebrated
next Sunday, Dec. 12th at 10:00
a.m.
Holy Communion was
administered by Rev.
G.A.Andersoit at St. Paul's
Anglican Church. The text of the
sermon fOt Bible Sunday was
taken from 1 Corinthians 9 v16,
"Woe unto me if I pr each not the
Gospel". The flowers were in
loving memory of the late Mr.
Archie Noakes.

Church was conducted liy Rev,

John Turkheim at the organ. The
choir sang the anthem,.
"Shepherds on the Hillside" and
the subject of the sermon was
"After Winning the Election'..."

were in loving memory of Mr.
