the lead again.
Tom Cottonie then converted
passes, from Jim Nash and Bill
O'Shea to move Seaforth up 3-1.
Seaforth outshot the home squad
14 to 11 and were at full marks for
the 3-1 lead.
The second period saw Ross
Govier play outstandingly in the
Seaforth goal as he stopped 15
shots and kept the Hawks off the
scoreboard. The only scoring play
of the period came on a beautiful
passing, play as Bill Smith and
Paul McClure sent Bill O'Shea in
all alone and he made no mistakes
as he put the Centenaires up 4-1.
The final period saw Scott
Wheeler put the Centenaires up
5-1 at the 1:36 mark as Dave.
McClure assisted.
Then Mitchell came to life as
they hemmed the local boys in
their own end and at the 5:02
mark scored a short handed goal.
Then at the 8:18 mark they
narrow •ed the margin to 5-3 as
EilioNscored his second goal of
the night. '
At the 9:51 mark Mitchell
scored again and looked like they
might tie the game as they kept
passing. With a minute left they
pulled their goalie but failed td
get the equalizer as the
Centenairs played their third
game without a defeat.
Murray Connelly netted the hat
trick to spark the Kings to victory
in the graveyard game. Sid
Wocks and Steve Eckert chipped
in single ;scores.
Casey Klaver, Steve Southgate
and Jerry Feeney replied for the
Hawks who have now lost 4
straight games.
I.H.L. Notes: The Hawks have
scored more goals than any other
team in the league so far this
season yet are dangerously close
to being labelled as this season's
rigor mortis team.
Jim Watson needs just one goal
to reach the 70 goal plateau, Dale
Kennedy, Don Hulley and Dave
Broome are the only three to net
more than 70.
Kennedy needs just 2 goals to
break Hulley's long standing
record. Hulley leads with 78
career scores. Kennedy, with 5
this season, has 77 goals. Broome
has 74 goals to date.
Only 3 players in league history
have scored more than 60 assists.
Dale Kennedy; again, has 76.
Dan Muir finished his I.H.L. stay
with 73 assists. Dave Broome is a
distant' 3rd with 64 assists,
Kings finally win in IHL
Tuesday evening the Seaforth
Centenaires -"ingot the league
leading Mitchell Hawks by a 5-4
score. Seaforth started strong as
Bill Smith opened the scoring
unassisted to put Seaforth up 1-0
at the 1:47 mark. Then ,Mitchell
fought back as Ron Elliott evened
the count at one a piece.
The Centenaires then got new
life as Gord Carnochan skated the
length of the ice and scored from

The Kings finally won a hockey
match last Sunday night. The
Royal teams first victory of the
young season came at the
expense of a slumping Hawk club
whose only claim to any kind of
victory, was that they only
allowed 5 scores.
The Kings took a big step in
climbing out of the cellar with the
win. 'Both teams are now tied but
the Hawks are tumbling down-
ward while the Kings may just
now get their act together.
Wings 6, Flyers 3 ;
Kevin Bennett continued his
hot shooting with a pair of goals
to lead the Red team to victory.
Hurry Arts also scored twice
with single goals going to Doug
O'Reilly and Wayne Coombs.
The Wings are not a team that
will engage in a firewagon style of
hockey. The team employs a tight
checking system that has worked
well this season.
The Flyers play a more wide
open brand of hockey but the
Wings tight checking provided
numerous opportunities which
they capitilized on.
Actually the 6-3 score was not
indicative of the play. Ross Govier
stopped a flood and his play kept
the score reasonably close.
Steve Hutchinson, Jim Watson
and John Watt. scored the Flyer
goals.
Stars 4, Blues 2
The surprising Stars continued
their rush to the top of the
standings with the biggest upset
of the year last Sunday.
The green team employed a
tight defense to upset the Blues
4-2 in the middle contest.
Gary Finnigan counted 2 goals
for the $tars with single tallies
going to Dave Longstaff and cord
Moyland.
Jim McLeod and Dale Kennedy
were the only Blues that Managed
to beat Stars' goalie Charlie
Smith.
The loss was the first of the
season for the Blue team and it
dropped them into a first, place fie
With the Wings.

Mitchell is protesting the game
on a personal protest as they
claim Gordon Carnochart is their
property. Gord has played the last
two seasons in Seaforth and is a
Seaforth boy so we hope the
protest is in vain.
These same Mitchell Hawks
will, be in town• this Sunday
afternoon for a rematch so it
should prove to be a real thriller.
The game saw only 15 penalties
called with Mitchell drawing nine
minors and Seaforth six.
The Centenaires are a young
hustling squa ;d this season and
are improving each time out. 'As
the season progresses the
Centenaires are also progressing
so don't miss Sunday's action
with game time at 2 p.m.

Friday night in Thatneafetti by a
narrow 6 - 5 score.
Both teams stuck strictly to
hockey as play travelled from end

and at 12:01 evened the score at 2

'remained tied at the end of the
first period and the Centenaires
outshot the Trojans 13 - 9 as bob
goalies played well,
The second period again saw
both teams come out skating only
thamesford went ahead at 6:10
only to see Seaforth even the
score again as Bill Smith scored
with Paul McClure and Bill
O'Shea assisting. Thamesford
outshot Seaforth in the second
period 13 -11 as again both teams
-played great hockey:
The third period saw both
teams take 13 shots and
Thamesford score with just 22
seconds gone to move up 4 - 3.
Wayne Parkinson evened the
score again at 7:29 as Ian Doig
and Bill O'Shea -assisted. Seaforth
then jumped into the lead at 14:07
as Bill O'Shea scored unassisted
then just 19 seconds later Ian
Doig converted passes from Bill
Smith and Paul 1)4cClure to put
Seaforth up 6-4. •e
Thamesford pulled their goalie
for the final minute and a half and
narrowed the count to 6-5 at the
19:44 mark but ran out of time as
the' Centenaires pulled off their
second win of the season.
Belmont 2 Seaforth 2
Sunday in Seaforth the
Centenaires again played a strong
game as they skated to a 2, all tie
With the Belmont Bombers before
a small crowd of 160.
Belmont went ahead 2.0 in the
first period, as two power play
goals put the Bombers in control.
The Centenaires had plenty of
chances but couldn't connect as
they missed golden opportunities.
The second period saw Seaforth
score at 15:12 on a power play as
Paul McClure connected with Bill
O'Shea assisting.
The third period saw both
'teams .miss glorious scoring

SAVE - Members of the Seaforth Leo Club put up a valiant fight against the,
CKNX Tryhards Friday night, as this save by goalie Gary Montgomery shows. But
the Tryhards went on to win. The game was in aid of the arena renovation fund, but
no money was raised because of the small turnout. (Expositor Photo)
