Credit Union :-.Piesident Ernest
Williams of Sc6aforth said he
foutiThis „first year as president
very enjoyable, and noted with
regret the resignation of Jack
Reid, who had been on the Credit
Committee for 14 years, 12 of
them as chairman. .
Mr. Williams noted that since
1963, the credit committee had
loaned out $25 million, to which
credit committee member Gerry
Holmes remarked, "some people
wonder what it's like to give away
a million dollars, and here we've
given away $25 million."
During the past year, the credit
committee, along with loan
officers Don J ferson: and Cliff
Parker, loaned o t $4 1/2 million.
The average loan proved by the
Credit Committee as $4,210 for
personal loans, aq $18,335.19
for mortgage loans.\
John Lavis, vice-president, told
the meeting that ,assets have
doubled in only fi ve years, and
relayed acompliment from J. E.
Brown, regional examiner for the
ministry of communications and
financial affairs, who said. "The
way your credit union 'is growing
continues to be a surprise,
coupled with the informal yet
efficient manner in which your
business is conducted."
"Mr. Lavis says that the
upcoming changes in the Creclk.
Union act requiring the Credit'
Unions to insure shareholders up
to $20,000 will have little effect,
because in the past the Credit
Unions had their own stabilization
fund always paying back dollar
for dollar every deposit, and
setting no upper limit. No Credit
Union member has ever sustained
any loss in Ontario, he said.
Th. omas Eadie and Charles
Nelson were re-elected to ' the
board of directors for three y ear
terms and .Norman Counter and
Gerry Holmes were-re-elected to
the credit committee, while Jim
Hunter pf Clinton was picked to
fill retiring Jack Reid's term.
