The village is obligated only to bring the sewer to the easement he said. The reeve said "We didn't get $10,000 back by doing it this way" but he said the savings allowed the village to sewer part of Mill, Nelson and King Sts. Mr. Smale told councillors that a lot of Legion members hadn't realized what had happened until they learned how much the rear sewer connection was going to cost. "I don't think you can' come back now and blame us," Reeve Baker said. The next meeting will Hensall council faced a delega- tion of Legion members Monday night who were upset because their sewer hook up will cost them about $2500. This summer council agreed to pay the costs of obtaining an easement so that the Legion, and property belonging to Donnie Reid, on King St., could hook up to sewers at the back of their properties, rather than along the front of King St. Costs of the easement were about $1000. Legion member Homer Camp- bell said he understood that the village saved' $10,000 by not having to tear up King St. in front of the Legion and he wondered why the Legion now had to pay to bring the sewer line 135 feet into their building the back way. Reeve John Baker told the Legion delegation, which included Howard Smale, Grant McClinchey and Ted Taylor that the Legion and Donnie Reid had approached the village about the foreetb; YAlafmeOaoel!JOO heard at.their.meetjag .MeMlaY night, tied fogethertmd then supported' On the back Walt he sold He; said there is no estimateyet of the cost involved, • - Men* employees hope to have Joseph's Hospitalr London, returned to his home on Saturday, • Mr. and Mrs. Murdock Stewart of Lake Forrest, ill, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Bell and family last week. Mr. Edgar Munn is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter where he is receiving treatment. Mrs Richard Bissett and Jennifer of Wrentham, Alberta and Mrs. Herman Shoemaker of said. When Mr. Smale suggested the village should have had a meeting before going ahead with the easement, councillor Harold Knight replied "why didn't the Legion have a meeting?" I Perhaps the Legion executive was 'a bit slack in not talking to members first but "we can't run the Legion's problenis, we have trouble running the town some- times," Reeve Baker said, to general chuckles, Councillor Knight said the date for sewer appeals, October. 15, had already passed and he suggested that the Legion consult its lawyer to see if the easemento which several members signed was legal. "There's no way one person in the Legion can make this deci- sion," Mr. McClinchey said. "What alternatives do you have? We're here for advice." he said. The Legionnaires said that if council would bring the sewer across the easement to theist property line, they could pay for the rest of the way. The reeve and councillor Knight said they didn't, see how they could. "If we review' this one, everyone could ask for a review," Mr. Knight said. Councillor Paul Neilands, who ,was one or‘the ' signers of ,the easement' agfeernent for the' Legion said Murray Traquair of the Legion "asked me to sign it and I did." "It's unfortunate that, you decided to go that way," said Reeve Baker. Councillor Knight said something perhaps could have been done if the Legion had appealed before the October 15 deadline. In other business, council agreed to try one more time to get the mills who use the dump to lock and unlock the gate. Works superintendent Gary Maxwell reported that the dump gate and chain has been left lying in the mud. He was asked to hand deliver a letter to the mill managers saying that if dump users aren't more careful; they'll' have to call at the village office and have a village employee escort their trucks to the dump, and pay for his time. The dump won't be open to the mills after office hours if they can't police it themselves, said Saltford Heights visited last week with DAM Stewart Bell, Miss Linda Bell of University of Guelph spent the weekend with her parents Mr., and Mrs. Robert M. Mrs Maxwell said he planned to cut dawn two dead trees, both on town property, near the Maple Apartthents and at Keith Vollands. Coun6i1 ehdorsed a resolution from the Town, of Markham asking - that ' sports equipment bought with Wintario funds be purchased locally instead of from a central Toronto supplier. "They feel they are getting' substandard equipment and that local sports dealers suffer," ' Councillor Knight said local purchaSes would have to be checked and that would lead to more bureaucracy. But he agreed with the reeve who said "it might make them take a better look at their present purchasing practises." At their December meeting, council will pass a bylaw allowing some variances ,for • special circumstances• in sewer hookups and councillors agreed to wait until that meeting to set a, deadline for sewer connections. About 75 houses are stubbed in to sewers and about 35 are completely connected, „clerk Bob Heil estimated. Reeve Baker -asked the clerk to get forms into the Anti Inflation Board so that village employees and municipal ,representatives can get their raises for 1976. PUC, and council members will have to be paid at 1975 rates, the reeve said, because the AIB fine municipalities who pay increases before they are approved. The clerk said the MB forms involve going back to 1973 on all salaries but that he'd get them sent in as soon as possible. Councillors approved a grant of $42 to the Huron Country Play- house and of $25 to St. John's Ambulance. They' endorsed a resolution from the Huron County Municipal Officers Association, calling for two dates of payment of school board rates. Clerk Heil read a letter from Mrs. Ken Vance, Forest, seeking information on a calendar plate. labelled a souvenir of Hensall, 1935-1—He said he would look for the information in the History of Hensall. The plate shows a man plowing and may have comme- morated a special event, Mrs. Vance said. ' HenSall Councillor Harold ttnaitg i h t announced e Ktge47ln*thilet December 6 municipal electinns. "It's not for sure but if there isn't a nomination, would definitely take a look at it." Councillors agreed with Mr. Knight that it is harder and harder for working people to serve on council because of the number of riaythyle meetings. rcqufredr - Harry Kiungel, retired former owner of the Queensway, Nursing, Home, attended the meeting as a apeetaterr and said in answer to a 4uestion from Reeve Baker that he Was thinking of running for A. couple of .councillors said 1. they had heard of possible interest in running from two or three other people.
