Boy Wanted.
"Boy wanted!" Two short Words !
Much depends on how you read them.
A boy is wanted, but that is not all.
A heart, a will, a brain, a soul is
called for, and the applicant may
answer the call earnestly or careless-
ly.
A boy was wanted, and the great
merchant handed one bright, but
quiet looking boy who applied a busi-
ness letter which be had just written
and asked him to copy it with a pen.
The merchant's letter bad the word
"separately" in it spelled s -e -p -e -r,
but the boy wrote it s -e -p -a -r, and
fearing that he might be misjudged,
he pointed out the difference he had
made. The merchant laughed, but
the quiet boy was so sure that a
dictionary was consulted, and he got
the place. That boy was Thomas
Tileston, aftertlards one of the mer-
chant princes of New York.
To hold your place, put purpose in
your work. Your sehoolings will be
past ; make this a new lint; of educa-
tion. If you consider it a slavery, it
will be so. If you will make it a
stairway by which to ascend to better
things it will be so. Lift your work
up and you will mount with it.
"Seest thou a man diligent in his
business. He shall stand before
kings ; he shall not stand. before
mean men."
Do not measure your work by the
wages. A bookmaker at the races
is better paid than a clerk in a bank,
and a bartender gets more than a
shipping clerk, but they are paid
more only because the positions are
undesirable. Work cannot in all
eases be measured by the wages.
Don't read trash. • Tho dine -novel

meter of great public works. Do
either well, and do not think that by
either despising the world's honors
that you will merit the favor of
heaven. It may be idleness not
piety. One of the greatest preachers
of the day said: "Whenever i hear
a, young man despising'. the world's
honors, I know that he is afraid of
the world's work."
Put some excitement into your
work. Do you know that the world
is betting on your success of failure?
Two-thirds at least say that you will,

your mother ten cents that you would
have the whole pile sawed before

boy, as ho grabbed the saw and spat

A UNIQUE CONTRETEMPS ARISING PROM
A IHAMILTON FAILURE.
The creditors of D. B. Pratt, the
insolvent boot and. shoe merchant of
Hamilton,, met at the offices of Walter
Anderson yesterday. The statement
presented showed liabilities of $36,-
000, assets of $16,000, leaving a' de-
ficit of $20,000. A motion was put
forward of d to appoint as chairman a n r Mr.

MeNab, of Gibon, McNab & Co.,
solicitors, London, when the assignee
objected, and said that the meeting
was being held in his. office and he
was going to act as chairman at his
own meeting. The creditors present
were quite agreeable to that if be
would allow an independent secre-.
tarty of the meeting. This he also
objected to upon the advice of his
solicitor, Mr. Scott of Scott, Lees &
Hobson, and the creditors were told
that the assignee intended to act as
assignee, chairman and secretary of
the meeting.
'They determined that they would
proceed in their regular coarse and
appoint their own chairman and
secretory, and. thus two meetings
were held in the same office at the
• saute time, which was quite an un-
usual proceeding. One meeting re-
presented by the assignee and his
solicitor was proceeding, while
another meeting was held by the
creditors, having their own -chairman
and secretary. The creditors present
were representing about $25,000 of
the liabilities, and , if the course of
the assignee had been concurred in
they would have had no voice in the
matter whatever. -
• A motion was passed by the credi-
tors that the assignee be removed
from his position and that hfr.
O'Keefe, the representative of Bresse
& Co:, of Quebec,. be substituted in
his place. .
The assignee's meeting put for-
ward at resolution that the stook be
sold if no offer was forthcoming in
one day.
The creditors took action. Yester-
clay lir. Neil Mc0rirnmon, of Glutei
Macdonald (SI Co., representing credi- —
tors whose claims aggregated $25,-
000, obtained an injunction at
Os-
