The final game was played at Winthrop Saturday morning to determine a winner before the league banquet. The Duffers took advantage of some outstanding fielding plays with some strong hitting to completely dominate and score a convincing 13.0 win. The first inning saw Texaco score a single marker which proved to be all they needed as 4 Ron Beuerman threw a four hitter at the Village while his team mates collected eleven hits off the servings of Rick Woods. Two double plays dampened the spirit of the Village as the Duffers took advantage of some sharp fielding to limit the village base runners. texaco won the opening game of the best of five series by a 7.6 count but tht village bounced back with a 10 -4 win to even the series at 1 game apiece. .The Duffers took the third game 7 - 2 as they again moved ircTront only to see the Village come back with a 6 - 3 victory to force a fifth and deciding game. As shown in the playoffs, the men's league proved close this season as all the teams were even in manpower and ability. Congratulations are, in order to the Texaco Duffers as they not only. won thp League champion- ship but came through in the playoffs to capture both trophies. The Village are also to be •congratulated for a tremendous showing in the playoffs and have The hockey season ,is now officially underway .and the Seaforth Centenaires didn't get off to a very good start. In the season opener the Lucan Irish downed the local boys by a 7 - 2 count as they dominated play for the first two periods. The Centenaires played well in the third period outscoring the home squad 2 - 1 shoiVing they can play with the supposedly superior team. The Centenaires played with only three defensemen and it showed as Lucan outshot the locals 76 - 32. Ian Doig and Dave McClure scored the Seaforth goals as they came on strong but it was too late and they came out on the short end. Thamesford 10 Seaforth 2 In M itchell last Wednesday evening the Centenaires dropped their second straight game.Using Mitchell as a home rink until Seaforth gets ice, the local boys failed to produce as Thamesford, a new team this season, took advantage of penalties and sloppy play to score a big 10 - 2 win over the Centenaires. Seaforth's goals came off the sticks of Dave McClure and Ron McIver.
