Thp League Champion Texaco
Duffers took the full five games to
come out on top as the y defeated
the Villagers three games to two
to win the playoff trophy in the
Men's Industrial Ball League.
The final game was played at
Winthrop Saturday morning to
determine a winner before the
league banquet. The Duffers took
advantage of some outstanding
fielding plays with some strong
hitting to completely dominate
and score a convincing 13.0 win.
The first inning saw Texaco
score a single marker which
proved to be all they needed as
4
Ron Beuerman threw a four hitter
at the Village while his team
mates collected eleven hits off the
servings of Rick Woods.
Two double plays dampened
the spirit of the Village as the
Duffers took advantage of some
sharp fielding to limit the village
base runners.
texaco won the opening game of
the best of five series by a 7.6
count but tht village bounced
back with a 10 -4 win to even the
series at 1 game apiece. .The
Duffers took the third game 7 - 2
as they again moved ircTront only
to see the Village come back with
a 6 - 3 victory to force a fifth and
deciding game.
As shown in the playoffs, the
men's league proved close this
season as all the teams were even
in manpower and ability.
Congratulations are, in order to
the Texaco Duffers as they not
only. won thp League champion-
ship but came through in the
playoffs to capture both trophies.
The Village are also to be

showing in the playoffs and have
The hockey season ,is now
officially underway .and the
Seaforth Centenaires didn't get
off to a very good start. In the
season opener the Lucan Irish
downed the local boys by a 7 - 2
count as they dominated play for
the first two periods.
The Centenaires played well in
the third period outscoring the
home squad 2 - 1 shoiVing they
can play with the supposedly
superior team. The Centenaires
played with only three
defensemen and it showed as
Lucan outshot the locals 76 - 32.
Ian Doig and Dave McClure
scored the Seaforth goals as they
came on strong but it was too late
and they came out on the short
end.
Thamesford 10 Seaforth 2
In M itchell last Wednesday
evening the Centenaires dropped
their second straight game.Using
Mitchell as a home rink until
Seaforth gets ice, the local boys
failed to produce as Thamesford,
a new team this season, took
advantage of penalties and sloppy
play to score a big 10 - 2 win over
the Centenaires. Seaforth's goals
came off the sticks of Dave
McClure and Ron McIver.

Contrary to the hopes of
Seaforth's Centenaire's team and
Industrial Hockey League, both
of whom had games scheduled for
this weekend, there won't 'be ice
in the arena until next weekend.
Seaforth's recreation director
Clive Buist said the new brine
cooler arrived last Thursday and
installation should have been
completed by Wednesday,
yesterday, But the installation
has to be inspected and then it
takes four or five days to make ice
and Mr, Buist said the ice sttrface
should be ready by next Tuesday
or Wednesday, •for games next
weekend.
"It would be pushing our luck to
have ice this weekend," said town
clerk Jim Crocker.
Both he and the recreation '
threatened to improve next
season.
At the league banquet last
Saturday George Reeves moved
into the President's spo t with
Fred Burton a Vice President and
Terry Craig secretary treasurer.
The league wishes to thank
Ken McLlwain past president,
and Rick Woods, vice president,
along with Ben Akker, Treasurer,
for a tremendous job this season
and a great tournament. The
players are already looking
forward to next year and' a fresh
start.
Members of the winning team
are: Bob Dinsmore (Captain); Jim
McLeod; Ron Beuerman; Mike
Merriam; Moe Huard; Fred
Burton; Rick Fortune; Clive

(Oct. 29) night when the Lucan
Irish will provide the opposition.
Seaforth are rebuilding and
have a lot of young players but it
is hoped that.once the team can
get more time on their home ice
things will improve.
The team officials are not
disappointed with the opening
games as they haven't had the ice
time the other teams have had
and with some more experienced
players-along with the younger
boys they will have a good squad
and be competitive.
It is hoped to have a good
crowd Friday night as the
Centenaires 50 - 50 draw takes
place.
