"Ave Marie, blessed be the
hour,
The time, .the clime, the spot
where I so oft
Have felt that moment, in its
fullest po'wer,
Sink o'er the earth so beautiful
and soft;
While rang the deep bell on the
distant tower
Or the, faint dying-day-hymn
stole aloft,
°And not a breath crept through -the rosy air
.And yet the forest leaves
seemed stirred with prayer."
Lord Houghton upon viewing
this masterpiece was inspired to
write:
"Against the sunset glow they
stand,
Two humble toilers of the land,
Rugged of speech and rough of
hand,
Bowed down witif tillage..
No grace of garb or circum-
stance
Invests them with a high
romance;
Ten thousand such through
fruitful France
In field and village.
The day's slow path from dawn
to west
Has left them toil-stained and
distressed,
No thought beyond the nightly
rest,
New toil tomorrow.
Till suddenly the Ave bell
RingS out the sun's departing
knell
Borne by the breeze's rhythmic
swell
O'er swath and furrow. •
O lowly pair! you dream it not
Yet on, your hard, unlovely lot
That evening gleam of light has
shot
A glorious message.
For prophets oft have yearned,.
and kings
Have yearned in vain to know
the things
Which to your • simple spirit
brings
That curfew message.
Enough for us
The two lone figures bending
thus,
To iihoin that far-off Angelus
Speaks Hope and Heaven."

*. There are' • a number of
problems popping up right
The biggest of. which concerns
registration. Some people I have
talk,0 to are confused by it all so r
will try to shed some light on this
year's LH:L. format.
1. All players who played last
year and new persons who wish to
play this year must register with
either Lloyd Eisler or Clive Buist
by October 15. •
2. Residents of McKillop,
Hibbert. Hulletiand' the Town 'of
Seaforth are required to pay $15.
Curlers
not sure
building
okay
The Seaforth Curling Club's
addition which will house its new
ice making equipment is
completed.
Club president Bob Ste. Marie
says refrigeration equipment will
be instlled next week that will
make the curling club inde-
pendent of the arena. Since the
club was built, it has shared the
arena's ice making facilities and
last year curlers voted to spend
-$25,000 to set up their own
equipment.
However, the club isn't sure
that the provincial labour ministry
will allow the building to open.
The ministry ordered an
engineer's report on the condition
of the building, which although
privately owned, allows public
access.
Mr. Ste. Marie .says theotlub
has just gotten the report from
engineers -C.C.Parker and
Associates of London, but ' he's .
been unable to get s' old of
ministry People to g& : their
opinion on it. "When I've called
they've been conveniently Out:"
he "saiet,g$,.;.'
On the one hand Mr. • Ste. •
Marie says, the engineer's report
says the building will likOly last
another 24 years and then in
another paragraph it says it can't
recommend even summer use.
Curlers hope they can use the
building this winter, perhaps with
monitoring of snow loads, as the
province_ is allowing some arenas
to do, because it is probably too
late to get repairs completed now
before winter, the president said.
