(Staff •Photo) Minor hockey rates increase Minor Hockey rates this year will be $15.00 per child or a maximum $35/family plus an addtional $10.00 per player for all players .who register with a travelling team the new hockey executive decided. , Registration will be held Saturday October 2 at the Arena from 10a.m.-12 noon. Rates must be increased as last year expenses totalled over 6,200:00 and a mere $1,800.00 was recovered in registration: Even with an increase in registration fees this year, the total amount of money raised by registration fees is far less than the true cost of operating the association. It is for this reason that a number of fund raising events will have to be held. The first a bottle drive has been planned for Saturday October 16 from 10a.m.-3p.m. This year's executive is-Convenor-Bob Beutenmiller, Vice Convenor-Cathy Cooper, Sec. /Treas-Peg Campbell, Post Convenor-Joyce McClure and Co-Houseleague Convenors-Barb Wesenburg and Shirley . Artes, on a Yamaha, won both the 440 and Open Super Mod Classes to vault himself into the lead for the Kool Kup. With only 7 meets left he holds a slim margin over Mercury rider, Peter Nieuwenhuizen of Watford. Next race in the Canadian Snowmobile Drag Race Ass'n Schedule is this Sunday October 3rd at Chatham. Brad Finlayson scored with less than 3 minutes to play in regulation time to defeat Leo's Distributing 1-0 and win the 3rd Division Cup this past Saturday. This was a very close game from start to finish with perhaps the London team- having a few more scoring opportunities than St. Columban. Twice their Centre forward put the ball over the corss bar, on good chances and on another occasion hit the post on 'a deflected shot. Goalie Gord Dick had a very strong game for St. Columban as he stopped several 'hard shots and never permitted a rebound to escape. AslO, the fullback line of Neil Murray, Pat Flanagan and Lou Arts stood up well under pressure and forced Leo's to take mainly long shots at the net. St. Columban could not seem to mount a consistent attack and, the few times that they did break clear, their shots were handled easily by Leo's goaltender, Then, just as overtime seemed inevitable, Brian Murray centred the ball from the left wing and Bard Finlayson banged it in after the goalie let it slip away from him. St. Columban then withstood a last minute effort by Leo's Distributing as they threw everyone to the attack. After the game league president .Joe Agnew presented the 3rd Divsion Cup to St. Columban captain Marvin Kale. On Sunday, regular league play resumed and St., Columban defeated London Lusitanos 3-0 to assure themselves of a 2nd place finish and promotion to the 2nd Division for next year. Despite the rain which fell through out the .entire game, the game was well played with St. Columban' taking control of 'the game early and never letting Lusitanos have any really solid scoring chances. 'Goaltender Fran Verb'erne returned to play after sitting out 2 games with an injured wrist and 'turned in the shutout. Gipal scorers were Brian "kiirray with 2 and Gord Dick. St. Columban had many more good chances but were unable to finish off the plays, due in part to field conditions. St. Columban were orginally scheduled to play London Portuguese "B” on October 3rd but they have since •dropped out of the league. Two games remian to be played, with the final game at home on October 17 against Leo's Distributing. In close soccer game St. Columban defeats Leo's
