Mrs. Aldeen Volland, representative, and Mrs. Margaret Consitt, Scholar' who attended the Rebekah Assembly Sessions in Toronto in June presented interesting reports on meetings.. "Birthday Greetings" were extended to Annie Reid, Evelyn MacBeath and Olga Chipchase. following the meeting a pot luck luncheon was enjoyed in the lower hall. Hensall,council awaiting engineers' report on arena If anyone was hoping t4 get further information regarding Hensall's arena at the public meeting to be held on Monday they can forget it .as there won't be -one Hensall council decided Tuesday night at their regular meeting. "We can't tell them anymore than we did at the last meeting." said Coundillor Harold, Knight. "There' is no, use going into a future meeting until we 'have all the facts and figures." Council is still awaiting • an ''engineer's .report frotn B.M.Ross Ltd. on the arena. Council received a letter from Mr. and Mrs. Gallop, ' Horton MeDdugal, ,Mr.,• and Mrs.. Aud and Mrs. John Beer criticising council for not paving Queen •Street. The letter stated that they had been assured •by council that , their street would be paved after sewer completion. • • "We were. understandibly shocked to 'hear that out. street was not going to be paved,", the letter read. "We pay our taxes the. ,sp.ine as the • rest of . the '''Yekearifss' of T-lehglr SO why are we not entitled to enjoy paved . streets as well as 'the other residents." • "I can't remember,,;promising anybody_,.such thing:" said - Reve, John Baker. Councillor• Harold Knight said that the people were confusing the paving issue because it wasn't the town that was paving the streets. "The streets are being put bac1c in their original condition by the contractor and we have n °thing to do with it," he said.' "I think they all should be paved.) t is the cheapest form of maintenance, but we have to stay_ within the constraints of our budget." Members of council decided to wait until next year's budget was drawn up before considering any ,street paving anti that the people concerned in the letter be informed that council did •. not promise any paving on Queen Street, Council also received letters from Bob McKinley, Huron MP and Jack Riddell, Huron MPP, concerning council's endorsation last' month of a resolution by Exeter. The resolution called for the government to allow arenas to stay open whcih were approved under the old building standards. Mr. McKinley said that the 4esolutiorr. c loittained "several sensible recommendations' '; while Mr Riddell informed council that they could be "assured of tiny support." In the record short meeting which lasted only 45 minutes Council approved a building permit for Hensall,Livestock Sales and two OHRP applications. Clerk Bob Hiel informed council that he had heard that the county 'Would 'not inspect their sewers unless they could inspect. the entire line from 4e-street line in. Hensall had ,previotisly planned on having a local 'person named inspector for the outside connections. "We don't want to leave ditches open all week waiting for the inspectors to come down from Goderich," said Councillor Knight. Council decided to write .the County and ask why the town couldn't inspect from the house to the street connection. Four objections to the sewer, frontage rates haye been received by the town. Council decided to 'hold a meeting on September 20 At 9 p.m. for anyone wanting to appeal the rates.
