Hensall,council awaiting
engineers' report on arena
If anyone was hoping t4 get
further information regarding
Hensall's arena at the public
meeting to be held on Monday
they can forget it .as there won't
be -one Hensall council decided
Tuesday night at their regular
meeting.
"We can't tell them anymore
than we did at the last meeting."
said Coundillor Harold, Knight.
"There' is no, use going into a
future meeting until we 'have all
the facts and figures."
Council is still awaiting • an
''engineer's .report frotn B.M.Ross
Ltd. on the arena.
Council received a letter from
Mr. and Mrs. Gallop, ' Horton
MeDdugal, ,Mr.,• and Mrs.. Aud
and Mrs. John Beer criticising
council for not paving Queen
•Street. The letter stated that they
had been assured •by council that ,
their street would be paved after
sewer completion. • •
"We were. understandibly
shocked to 'hear that out. street
was not going to be paved,", the
letter read. "We pay our taxes
the. ,sp.ine as the • rest of . the
'''Yekearifss' of T-lehglr SO why are
we not entitled to enjoy paved
. streets as well as 'the other
residents." •
"I can't remember,,;promising
anybody_,.such thing:" said -
Reve, John Baker.
Councillor• Harold Knight said
that the people were confusing
the paving issue because it wasn't
the town that was paving the
streets.
"The streets are being put bac1c
in their original condition by the
contractor and we have n °thing
to do with it," he said.' "I think
they all should be paved.) t is the
cheapest form of maintenance,
but we have to stay_ within the
constraints of our budget."
Members of council decided to
wait until next year's budget was
drawn up before considering any
,street paving anti that the people
concerned in the letter be
informed that council did •. not
promise any paving on Queen
Street,
Council also received letters
from Bob McKinley, Huron MP
and Jack Riddell, Huron MPP,
concerning council's endorsation
last' month of a resolution by
Exeter. The resolution called for
the government to allow arenas to
stay open whcih were approved
under the old building standards.
Mr. McKinley said that the
4esolutiorr. c loittained "several
sensible recommendations' ';
while Mr Riddell informed council
that they could be "assured of
tiny support."
In the record short meeting
which lasted only 45 minutes
Council approved a building
permit for Hensall,Livestock Sales
and two OHRP applications.
Clerk Bob Hiel informed
council that he had heard that the
county 'Would 'not inspect their
sewers unless they could inspect.
the entire line from 4e-street line
in. Hensall had ,previotisly
planned on having a local 'person
named inspector for the outside
connections.
"We don't want to leave ditches
open all week waiting for the
inspectors to come down from
Goderich," said Councillor
Knight.
Council decided to write .the
County and ask why the town
couldn't inspect from the house to
the street connection.
Four objections to the sewer,
frontage rates haye been received
by the town. Council decided to
'hold a meeting on September 20
At 9 p.m. for anyone wanting to
appeal the rates.
