Obituary
" When the press 'representative
asked if it would be an Open
meeting Reeve Elgin Thompson
said it was all right with Nip if the
meeting was open, but was not
sure hoW Clinton council would
decide. Clerk James McIntosh is
to contact the Clinton clerk for
their decison. •
Tuckersmith received its 1976
resource•equalization and support
grant of $105,494, of wmcn tne
township will keep $60,000 and
the remainder goes to the county
of Huron.
This year Tuckersmith is the
muncipality responsible for
nomination of separate school
board members for Tucicersinith,
Hensall, Zurich and Stanley
Township, and is also responsible
for the nomination of Huron
County board of education
members for Tuckersmith and
Clinton. These are both changes
from previous years.-
An information 'letter was
received by council from Deputy
Reeve Donald Eadie of Township
of TurnberrY, ,RR 2, Wingharn,
asking for comments bn the
subject of the proposed recreation
areas in the county. In his letter
Mr. Eadie. 'said he was a
member of the development
committee of county council
responsible •for the meetings fbn
the 'recreation areas. H e said it
was stated at the meetings that
'the main problem with recreation
was the lack of co-operation, cost
pharing, distruit and fear
between loCal municipalities but
he said he-dis,agreed with this and
said he thought the basic problem
is the competiton between the
different forms of recreation
available• and a • relatively small
Ovulation 'spread across the
county. • ' •
Mr. Eadie, spoke.-of the lack" of
volunteer help -- coaching,
managingteams as examples and ,
said without volunteer help
recreation will become .a greater
and greater financial burden on
the taxpayer' as have so many
other government supported
programs.
In his letter Mr. EAdie
continued, "It has been said that
people cannot pay higher
admission prices but can they
afford higher taxes to support
recreation when with such a
system cost will most certainly be
higher because of increased
administration and the people will
not have a choice whether they
pay • or not.
Council accepted an invitation
from the Van Egmond Fqundation
to hold an October Meeting in the
historic old Van Egmond •home in
Egmondville which the letter said
was the meeting place for the
early —Tuckersmith councils.
October 19 at 8 p.m. was the time
set for the meeting:
The meeting adjourned at •12:15
a.m. Wednesday.
