Monday e ning and with only
one ''nor rained out_ game to

final s ndings of three teams.
The Texaco Duffers clinched
first pl ce last Thursday evening
as they edged a strong Firemen
nine by a 10 - 7 count.
- The long ball proVided the
difference as Bob Dinsmore hit a
solo home run which Fred Burton
and Moe • Huard both added
triples and Jim McLeod added, a
d'oubl'e as the Duffers moved 3
points up on the Queens with only
1 game remaining.
Monday's action saw the
Duffers finish with a flourish as
they nipped the Mainstreet nine 7
- 6 in a real cliff hanger. Again
both teams used the extra base h
its to advantage as the game
see-sawed back and forth.
Moe Huard, Murray Connelly,
and Ron Beuerman. all had
doubles while Fred BurtOn and
Bob Dinsmore added triples for
the winners. Bill Roberton and.
Ray Anstett had doubles for the
losers while Bob Beuttenmiller
added a triple in a losing cause.
Ben Akker stroked the winning
hit in' the seventh inning as the
Duffers edged out 'the win.
Finished Second.
' The Queens finished in second
place and left the Teachers in the
cellar as the Queens dominated
play and scored an easy 10 - 2
win. The Queens built up a 7 - 0
lead before the Teachers hit .the
scoreboard.
The Teachers were never really
in the contest as they failed to
find their batting eye. The
Queens struck for fifteen hits
while the Teachers replied with
only five as they just didn'tThave
the desire.. ,
The Lions Park saw the
Firemen remain ope point up on ,
the Turf Club as the teams battled
to a 12 all draw.
The tie leaves the Turf Club in
seventh place and moves the
Boys, ball

finish.Both teams played well but
failed to take advantage of easy
plays as the defensive play left a
lot to be desired.
Late Contest
The late, contest saw the
Travellers come 'from behind to
nip the Village by an 11 - 10
count. The win moved the .,„e Firemen' 5 6 3 13 TraVellers 'into ' a tie with the * Travellers 6 7 1 13 Firemeri and Village. The Village Turf Club 4 8 2 10 had built up a big 8 - 3 lead early
in the game but couldn't hold
on as the Travellers rallied to pull
out the victory.
The'' only remaining game
between the Village and Teachers
now could move the Village into
third place or drop them into sixth'
place.
Tuesday night saw the,
Teachers upset the Villagers -and
knock them back into fourth
place. The playoffs start this
Monday evening with Series A at
7 p.m. and Series B at 8:30 at the
Optimist Park. The remaining
'Series C and Series D will be

Winthrop. The Oilers won the
game 20-14. Paul McCalluin and
Dennis Murray each had a home.

THEY'VE DONE IT AGAIN — Seaforth's champion figure skat r U0'0 r Jr.
and his -partner lori Baler of. Mitchell won a bronze medal in xed pairs
competition at the Central Ontario figure skating championships in Toronto. Lloyd
also won th.e novice men's championship• and got a silver for interpretat ive
skating. Lori was first in the junior ladies. Last month in Niagara Falls Lloyd won
the novice men's championship, Lori the junior ladies and the pair placed third in
novice pairs. After a few days at home next week Lloyd goes to UWO for a course
ahen on to Lake Placid, New York for a session with coaches. He's the son of
Loyd and Bev Eisler of Seaforth.

solidify their hold on 2nd 'place
and to set up a confrontation for
1st place this coming Sunday in
Delhi.
On Wednesday, August 11,
Casey Van Bakel scored once and
set up two goals by Brian Murray
to lead St. Columban to a 3-1
victory over London Lusitanos.
This was perhaps St. Columban's
, best game of the year to date as
every player on the team turned
in a strong 90 minute perfor-
mance, Van Bakel opened the
scoring after only 5 minutes of
play as he received a pass at
centre, beat 2 defenders and, sent
a booming drive into the far top
corner of the net from the top
