rolling; now 400 people belong to
Country Singles and attend their
dances around Huron County.
Betty Cardno of Seaforth and
Irene Okahashi and Vicki
Horbaniuk of Clinton organized
the first Country Singles dance on
their own, in February 1975. 180
people came out for that first
dance and the group hasn't
looked back vet.
• The three w omen rented the
hall and - paid advertising
insurance and other costs out of
their own pockets because they
felt there was a need for a place
for single people to get togehter

Hitler, and that now Admiral
Doenitz was the supreme

nation.
May 2. 1945 - Berlin falls to
Russians after 12 days of street
Lighting. The waf in Italy,
Austrian Tyrol and Salzburg
ends at noon with the surrender
• of nearly 1,000,000 German
troops.
May 3. 1945 First" Canadian.
Army captures Oldenburg,
Germany. Canadian para-
troopers link up with the
Russians in Wismar. Hamburg
. captured by British troops; mass
German surrenders end all re-
sistance in- Northern Germany
east of the port of Hamburg. •
May 4, 1945 - Canadian forces
cease fire. General Eisenhower
. announces that all German
forces in Holland. Northwest
Germany and nearby islands
have surrendered to Field
Marshal Montgomery ; cease
fire effective at 2 a;.m. May 5.
May 5, 1945 - All organized re-
sistance to the Western Allies'
forces commanded by 'General
Eisenhower ends in Europe.
May 7, 1945 Germans 'sign
Surrender at Reims, France.

by those who attended the most
recent Country Singles dance,
Saturday night at Hully Gully.
All ages are welcome at the
dances and the group boasts that
it has members from "eight to
80". People come from all over
southwestern Ontario.
Money that is raised at the
singles dances has gone to
charities around the county.
Vanastra Recreation Centre has
gotten over $3,000; ARC in
Da shwood has been given a $600
donation.The Van Egmond

not attending the installation

Branch 156 will be canvassing
again this year for the Salvation
Army. The canvass will start May,
17th and will run until May 22nd.

summer.

have returned from a two week
conducted tour of Florida with

The 1976Blyth Summer
Festival will present a unique,
exciting season of four Canadian
plays from July 3 to August 14 in
the newly renovated theatre of
s the Blyth Memorial Hall.
The season will open with a
new musical version of "The
Blood is Strong" by established
Canadian playwright, Lister
Sinclair. Music for this delightful
comedy about homesick Scottish
settlers trying to farm in canada
has been composed by Glenn
Morley.
"Flow i Met My Husband" by
Alice Munro, a native of the Blyth
area is the gentle story of a girl's
first love for a barnstorming pilot
in the 40's. This_ will the first
time that a work of Ms. Munro,
who is -pne of Canada's leading
writers,Oas been presented on
stage.
By popular request, last
season's hit, "Mostly in Clover"
adapted by Steve Thorne and
James Roy from thrire. books by
,Harry J. Boyle„will be revived,fOr
several performances. The play is
a hilarious account of growing up
in rural Western Ontario during
the depression.
In honour of the Montreal
Olympics, the Blyth Summer
Festival will present a new
musical, ,"Shape" by Jim
Schaefer, specially commissioned
for this year's season. An
amusing story of a small town boy
who finds himself competing at
the Olympics, it will feature
country and western music by
Mitchell Lewis and Anne Lindsay.
This production has been made
possible through a grant from
Wintario's Cultural Olympics.
A concert of classical music on
July 12, an exhibition of works by
area professional artists,
children's performances, and
Saturday night square dances will
round out the season..
The Blyth Summer Festival will
operate within the jurisdiction of
Actor's Equity Association. -
