A delegation from Drumcrow Fiiins Ltd. presented Hensa11 council with plans for an extension of Queensway Nursing Home Monday night, but failed to receive final approval because the extension didn't fit Hensall bylaws. The problem arose because the extension will be built beyond the line of the existing building and therefore will be closer to the property line than is permitted. "It's too bad you hadn't checked on the bylaws first before you got the plans drawn,': said councillor Murray Baker. "According to our bylaws it won't stand up. It can stay within line of the existing structure but can't come beyond." S. C arisen, president of Drtirncrow Farms, said the purpose of the extension was to bring the „home up to standards set by the Ministry of Health Services. "The Home at the moment does not meet all the require-. merits. It is our intent to bring all the physical deficiencies tip to date," said Mr. Carlsen. The addition, which has already received Ministry of Health approval according to Mr. Carlsen, will be a single story, 3500 square feet in size. Mr. Carlsen said that they couldn't .stay behind the line of the existing building because they wanted window space to let the residents see out. Expansion to fit'? west would have spoiled the Nursing • Home's garden ,Which many of the residents use. Council decided to defer their decision on the matter to a later date and planed to make an , site inspection Tuesday night to see what effect the extension would have. , If the plan does receive approval Drumcrow Farms hope. .to be at the tendering stage by raid-June with construction starting not later than September 1. In other business council agreed to repair a plugged drain on King St. if Tuckersmith was willing to pay half of the cost. The clerk was instructed to send a letter to Tuckersimith council enquiring as to what their position on the matter is. In response to a letter from the newly formed Huron group for the handicapped requesting council consider the needs of they, handicapped in future planning, council members agreed such things as sloped curbs could be constructed in the future. Council also received a letter requesting that they amend the parking bylaw so that parking would be limited to two h 'ours on Main St. so that store employees would not park out front and block customers parking. However, council decided" to talk to the employees and persuade thern park off of Main St. rather than hire a full time man to enforce .the proposed bylaw.
