Church , Brodhagen there were three baskets of flowers from the funeral of Mr. Joe Smith. The funeral was held on Tuesday., We are glad to hear Mrs. Walter Muegge has returned home from the General Hospital in Stratford. We wish her a speedy ' . recovery. A number from this area attended the Back-Kappes wedding last Friday in, Stratford, mrs. John.,VV, illiatna and Mrs. Martha Eickmeier accompanied Dr. and Mrs. K. McGill where they are holidaying with the, latter's son-in-law And daughter L.C.D.R. and Mts. keenlyside and family in Halifax. Friends, neighbours and relatives will be glad to hear Mrs. Joe Thornton, Mrs, Cleve Coombs, M r. Ed. Osborn and Mrs. Laverne Wolfe have all returned home from the Seaforth Hospital. They are convalescing at home. Congratulations to Mr. Dan Beuerman who, celebrated his 87th birthday, at Huronview, Clinton on" Wednesday, April 7. His family, Mr. ' and Mrs. Bob Beuerman and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Leonhardt joined him, ' There were a number from this area and surrounding district who went to Kitchener to hear Rex Humbard. M cCall The U.C.W. general meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon April 7thIn'ilie''clUrcli hasement with 18 ladies present, The devotional period with the . Easter theme was opened by Mrs. Herb Traviss for the Walton Unit. Thelymn ',`There is a Green H ill far away" was sung with M'rs. Martin Baan as pianist. M rs. Ror Bennett -read the scripture from Matthew 28 : 1 - 15 followed by giving prayer. Hymn, "In the Cross of Christ I Glory" was sung. A reading, "First Easter" was given by Mrs. Bennett. followed by Mrs. Traviss reading a poem, "No greater love", mrs. H. Traviss gave a very interesting topic, "The last dark hour" closing with a poem, "Walk along the path of life". Mrs. Neil McGavin presided for the business reminding everyone to meditate on the thoughts of Easter during this season. Minutes of the lasts meeting were read by Mrs. H. Traviss, the recording secretary. It was reported that the slides taken at the anniversary last June will be shown at the June meeting 'when all , units are to, be present. The clock in the church auditorium has been repaired and is to be hung back in its place. It was voted a bale will be packed, good used, clean clothing is to be left in the church basement the first weekend in May . 5 The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Ken McDonald and Good driver needs seat belts, Con. Wray says [By Wilma Oke] "You can't be a good driver unless you wear, a seat belt". stated Constable John Wi'Ay of the Goderich detachment of Ontario Provincial Police when he spoke at a meeting of the hospital auxiliary Tuesday night. He, added that a person must see that it fits properly. . The constable said that statistics based on studies made in 'Canada, Sweden and'Australia confirms that injuries and death are reduced by the seat belt. Auto racing' rivers report they • wear seat belts all the time during races and in ordinary driving. Constable Wray showed a' film to demonstrate the value of wearing scat belts. One area caused great concern among the members due to the lack of approved seat belts for small children in Canada. Constable Wray mentioned several, types and recommended that avarent would be wise to use one for a child as the present seat ,beits for the.Children do provide. good protection. Plans were finalized for the penny sale to start on April 14 in the Box Furniture Store. Roll call was "What have you decided to make for your free ,choice article". Thediscussion was on the Historical outline of Embroidery". We reviewed the color and design for the free choice article. The "Satin Stitch" and the sheaf filling stitch was demonstrated. Also how to make a twisted cord. The group then worked on all these stitches. Next meeting to, be held at' Lynne Stefflers on Monday, April 12th, closing with the 4-H motto, "Learn to do by doing". and Mrs. Hari.,;,., McCallum and Mr. and Mrs. Barry Hoegy attended the Corlett-Young wedding in Stratford on Saturday. Leeming who has been a patient in Clinton Public Hospital for the pte.•, week were: Mrs. Maud Leeming, Jane Leeming, Tom Leeming, Bob Leeming and Mr. and Ml,s. Stewart Watson of Dundas. Mrs. Phyllis Dunk arrived home Monday from visiting her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Terry Ford of Sheffield after spending, several days there this past week. Dr. Brian and Mrs. Traviss and girls of Waterloo spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs.. Herb Traviss. Little Teddy Sills, son of . Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sills, Seaforth, spent a few days last week with his grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Roily Achilles. Murray Dennis showed very interesting pictures of Cuba where they had visited recently. Cuba is included in the U.C.W. Mission Study this year. It's the largest island in the Carribean. They were billeted at Havana and showed m any of their buildings and cars, also the machinery, animals and farm land. The Country Four quartette again pleased everyone with several more favourite songs. They were well received and sang again after lunch, Mrs. Walter Bewley expressed thanks to the quartette and to the ones, that showed pictures and had the devotions. The closing hymn, "Rejoice the Lord is King" was followed by the Benediction by Rev. Ed. Baker. A social hour followed in the basement when lunch was served by the 17th and Boundary Unit ladies of the U.C.W. The McKillop ladies were responsible for cleaning up. The, public is invited to attend The by-laws of Seafoith Community Hospital provide that the board of trustees shall include 12 trustees to be elected by members of the ,hosPital corporation. . —MEMBERSHIP --- The by•laws provide with respect to members es 'follows: (1) The following persons shall be members upon resolufion of the Board: (a) A person who has donated or who donates $500.00 in any one year, to the Corporation shall be a life member. (b) The preSideptor designated officer of an association or organization who pays the Corporation. $25.00 in' any year shall be an ex officio member of the Corporation for that year. (c) A person who pays the annual membership fee to the Corporation in any year shall be a member of the Corporation for that year. The amount of this fee shall' be established from time to time by resolution of the Board of Trustees. (d) Persons appointed honorary members shall not be subject to fees. (2) A member who pays his fees annually shall not be entitled to vote at any meeting of tM corporation. unless his membership fee was paid in full at least thirty days prior to the date of the meeting. By resolutiuon of the Board the annual membership fee has been established at' one dollar. Robert Roberts women attended the Easter Thankoffering service of the U.C.W. in the auditbrium of Duff's United Church on Sunday evening, April 11th. The worship service was opened with a warm welcome to everyone by Mrs. Don McDonald. Hymn, "All Glory Laud a and Hbnqr" was sung accompanied by Mrs. Ian Wilb.ee at the piano. Mrs. D. 'McDonald gave prayer„ Mrs.' Campbell Wey read the scripture from the Gospel of Mark, chapter 10, verses 32-34, followed by the meditation, "The Journey" pertaining to the scripture verses. Hymn, "The Glory of our King was Seen" was sung. followed by prayer by Rev. Baker. The offering was received by Mrs. Allan McCall, Mrs. Herb Traviss and Mrs. Ken McDonald was dedicated by Mrs. Don McDonald. , The Country Four Of Seaforth consisting of Marlen Vincent, Ken Campbell, George Riby and Bill Campbell entertained with their special music' in two numbers. "Let the lower light be burning" and "Were you there?" Mrs. Neil McGavin and Mrs. the collection was received and dedicated. Menu prices were discussed with the decision of dignges to be left to the social committee. Mrs. Campbell Wey gave a report of the three days she. 4-H learns The fourth meeting of Walton 1 "Needle Benders" was held at the home of Margaret Shortreed on March 29. Opening with the 4-H Pledge. Roll ' Call was answered by all members, "Show design for a free choice 'article. Mary Alice Ryan gave the secretary's report. Discussion was on the twisted chain stitch, also went over the free choice article, and over the designs the girls had chosen for the colt call. We demonstrated the "Couching Cross stitch" and the "Couching Outline Stitch". The group worked on samplers. The fifth meeting of the club was held on April 5 at the home 43 Attend Mission Band The April meeting of the Mission Band was held Sunday morning in the church basesment „ with 43 in attendance.' John Huether opened with the Call to Worship. Hymn, "I am so glad that our Father in Heaven" was sung, assisted by the pianist, Laura Dennis. Mrs. Merton Hackwell read the Easter story in scripture. Jeanne McDonald gave prayer. The secretary's report was given by Peter Bennett and Cathy McGavin gave the treasurer's report, The offering was received and dedicated by ' John Huether. Hymn, "Cum'Bah Yah" was sung. An Easter filmstrip was shown followed by singing, "They'll, know we are. Christian".
