(Staff 01 ‘9 Curling Club Fun Day produces "An ode to Stew" On Saturday night the CurlingClub held a successful Fun, Night to raise money for prizes. Dinner was followed by a dance and a birthday cake was.presented to President Stew McCall. Milena Lobb composed and read a poem befitting the occasion of Stewart's birthday. T'was March 27th, Nineteen Hundred and twenty-one That the stork delivered the first baby -- a son. To the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McCall •He just made ..:i trips and that was all. • There was Stewart, Isabel and then little Ross . For the Button Schoolhouse teacher to boss. And on Stew they likely used the hickory stick While trying to teach Read'n 'n R ritin' 'n 'Rithmetic. Now as time passed and this bey Older grew Folks wondered "Just what will Stew do?" These were the times at a schoolhouse in Grey With Walter Bewley ,and Allan McCall he fiddled away. Murray was the name -they gave their new son And in a few ye ars, Stew's next career was begun. A love for baseball both -boys had-- Who was coach? DEAR OLD DAP. The trucking business grew and grew Until it was' more than just a tew. Cattle trucks, cement and gravel trucks joined the fleet, Was it any wonder Stew was near run off his feet He owns 300 acres of good farm land And six hired then he keeps on hand. With 250 cattle to bed and feed Foreman Wayne helps look after every need. Travel -- Stew and Mary sure have done their share All across Canada -- Yes they've been there. Playing his violin at dances was lots of fun But every farmboy knows there'S work to be done. And running a threshing machine helped keep him busy Until at a dance a pretty young thing got him dizzy. This girl just happened to be a friend of McCall's neighbor And soon folks started wondering about Stew's strange behavior. Then it wasn't too long till everyone knew Stew had decided what he was going to do. In September 1944 he took Miry as his wife And settled on his farm to start their married life. Now with cows, chickens and other chores, custom threshing had to stop, But football and fiddle playing with Loves and' Wilbees kept him on the hop. About now Herb and Mildred Travis came to Walton Town To help run the fescimill• and to settle down. Good friends these two couples did become And life with Herb and "Goody" hasn't been glum. Some cattle buying on his own Stew had done But'Mary says he lost money on the very first one. Then Jack Bryans and he got together, had a little luck And Stew really started making a "buck". In '48 the stork with son Jack did arrive And family life really came alive. • Then SteW started trucking in a small way Hauling, pigs tA.4;4Stratford every Thursday,, His half ton truck soon had to be bigger And son Jack went along to get his orange and "hamdigger" For eight years the stork had hovered near And another bundle was delivered have 'no fear, Deep sea fishing Stew heard was lots of fun. But all he caught was LOTS OF SUN. Be sure and take in the Bull Fights. NAtiw he gets sick at bloody sights. As evetione is well aware--nothing stays the same These two sons have added two wives to the McCall name. ' , And then that old grey bird brought' two little bundles of joy, First was a tiny baby girl and then a bouncing baby'boy. A Curli ng Club to me has always- meant A place where curling lovers their winters spent. One or two times a week we meet for exercise and fun And if one tried many a new friendship was begun. On a spiel inWingham with Stew, Herb, and Billy B, My Bill did go And later at the "Elm" these men and their wives. I got tom 'Lots ofknov 'fun they seemed to have had all day And Herb likes music or necking to pass the time away, Dancing, cards, golf, curb ng are things Stew likes to do And to the C4th Curling Club he's given his all too, Our President for the past two years he's been And for the McColl dinners we sure are keen. To the Club a set of curling sweaters he did donate And let's hope the Jr, Members appreciate The McCall TrOphy, shiny and new.
