Junior Farmers win Ontario's highest trophy
victorious, winning by 3 - P and
adding another shutout to their
record.
The last game was played at
8:00 P.M. with the home team,
DufferinCounty, being the
opposition. Paul, Storey was the
hero of the day when he scored
the only goal of the game, leaving
the final score 1 -0 in favour of the
Huron County Junior Farmers.
The goal was scored midway
through the first halt and the local
Junior Farmers managed to keep
the lead with many close chances
for both teams.
Other goal scorers during the
day included Paul Coyne , Garry
Nash, Teresa Flanagan, and Brad
Finlayson.
A dance held in Shelburne
brought the tournament to a close
with the 'A' and 'B' trophies
being presented at the dance.
Wellington County was
successful in beating Perth
County for the "B" trophy.
Sixteen different counties
competed in the tournament. It
had been a trying day but
everyone went home with a
feeling of satisfaction especially
of ter •winning the "highest
trophy in Ontario".
Team lineup included: Goalie:
Martri Vorbe'rtic: nrff.nce: Larry
Coyne, Marie Empey, Gerry
O'Reilly, Patti Flanagan and
Rhonda Ferguson. Forwards:
Paul Storey, Teresa Flanagan,
Brad Finlayson, Paul Coyne,
Garry Nash, Dianne Jansen, Bill
Docking and Brenda Finlayson.
Coach: Brad Carnochan.
The Seaforth Junior Farmers
mixed broomball team once again
brought fame to Huron County on
Saturday when they won the
highest trophy in Ontario. They
Competed in a tournament
sponsored by Dufferin County
Junior Farmers being played at
Dundalk and since Dundalk is
considered to be the highest point
in Ontario, they thought it
justified to say they won .the
'highest trophy in Ontario.-The
Junior Farmers won all four
games on Saturday getting shut
outs each time and brought h ome
the "A" trophy.
The day started out almost in
mass confusion because no one
was sure where the tournament
was to be held, only that Dufferin
County was spohsoring it. Since it
had been played in Shelburne in
former years, they decided that it
would be the most likely location.
Upon arrival at Shelburne, they
learned that the tournament was
not to be held there as the arena
had been condemn d two weeks
ago. A few local people from the
town '-emed t think the
tournarnen as t be held in
Honeywood, so 5 miles away,
so a quick trip took them' to
Honeywood only to find
youngsters practicing figure .
skating at the arena.
The broomball team was
getting rather concerned now as
game time was only 20 minutes
away. Again they questioned a.
few people standing around anid
found the tournament might be
held in Dundalk which was
another 12 miles away. A
telephone call confirmed it and
the team arrived at the Dundalk
arena barely after game time at
9:30 A.M. They were allowed a
few extra minutes and managed
to get six players on the ice on
time so the game could not be
forfeited.
The first game was against
Perth County with Huron County
winning 2 - 0 . Brenda Finlayson
got the goals, both within a
minute of each other.
The second game was held at
3:30 p.m. so with a little free time
to themselves the team was
allowed to get themselves
together, get something to eat,
and do a little relaxing.They
proceeded to beat the North
Niagara team by a convincing 3
0 score.
The next game was played at
b:30 p.m. against Lambton
County and once again 'the local
Junior Farmers team was
