(By Dave Broome)
The yellow army le d by
Captain Ken Doig continues to
win big in their torrid advance to
the I.H.L. royal crown. Last week
the mighty forces fronted by King
Kenny II nipped the Blues 5-3 to
win the first- big battle in their
march to the promised land.
,,The victory gives the Kings the
lead in' the niini series, I-0.
The Blues had not faced a foe
in close to a month and the Kings
were just too hot to handle...for
two.• periods at least.' Only in the
third did the Blues show signs of
the fire power that they had
demonstrated all season long.
Dale Kennedy,' Jerry Feeny,
Ken Wright, and Murray Con-
nelly combined to produce a wide
4-0 lead before the Blues would
find the Range. Art StrOng's
forces fired 3 goals past Jerry
Cooper in the third period. The
Kings replied once. Ben Akker,
Bill Teall and Pat Connelly scored
the three Blues goals with Ken
Doig getting the fifth King score.,
The long lay off obviously hurt
the Blues while the Kings are just
rolling along whipping everything
in sight. Next Friday (April 2) the
two clubs will meet in the second
contest of the final series begin-
ning at 8:00

It took six periods or hockey but
the Goderich squad defeated St.
lviarys 1,.Q to win the houseleaPP
tournament here by scoring at
3:4s of the third over time period.
Spectators witnessed an exciting
finish to the tournament with this
final game having a penalty shot
and many that hit goal posts.
The tournament consisted of 11
games over a day and a half. Teh
Seaforth team under coach Bill
Brown ran into tough competition
in both their encounters. They
were defeated by both Hanover
and St. Marys and although both
scores were high if it wasn't for
excellent goaltending by Steve
Stapleton the scores would have
been twice as high.
The tournament provided an
excellent opportunity for those
teams who-don't usually have an
opportunity to play out of town or
against other teams.
Seaforth's team • consisted of
Steve Stapleton, Pat Murray, Bill
Stewart Doug Huard, Steve Van

The Seaforth Minor Hockey
Association held its 'Big Night"
Saturday evening and a good
turnout of proud parents were on
hand to see a number of future
Bobby errs give it their best for
mon and dad. A handful of the
young rascals won awards in
differen t. categories and proved
that you can have good fun
playing' the game of hockey.
The first contest of the final
night featured the youngest of all
the teams playing. The Stars
(Green Team) nipped the Blues
4-2 on the Strength of Tony Van
Loon's twol goals in the Mite
game. Mike Betties also chipped
in a pair of tallies for the Stars
with Chris Cardno netting both
Blues goals.
Both Betties and Cardno won
the Most Valuable trophy award,
one a piece. Donny Brown
captured the Most Improved
Player award. •
The little fellows sold chocolate'
bars this season to raise some
money for minor hockey and
Bobby Nash and Gerard Ryan
took top honours as top salesman.
The Novices took to the ice in
the second game and the Wings
(red) whipped the Hawks 5-2.
Dougyuard lead the Red team
with two goals. Little Steve
Vanderveldon also chipped in a
pair of scores. Mark Stapleton
added the fifth Wing goal. '
Steven Eckert (following in.
Dad's footsteps) scored both
Hawk goals.
Mr. Eckert was not finished
4 hoWever as the young lad took
home the Most Valuable. Player
trophy. Tiny Pat Murray captured
the Most Improved Player award
and Steve Stapleton was selected
as most Valuable goaltender.
The Atoms took t the ice for
the third shinny match of the
evening and the Stars held, on for
a 3-2 victory over the Blues. Greg
Ryan le d the Green team with
two goals and Dave O'Rourke
added a single score.
Jeff Campbell an ' Mike Vati
Drunen netted the two. Blue

The game was probably the
best all evening. Greg Ryan

Player award. Joe Eckert took top
honours as the most Improved lad
and Ken Whetham was named
Most Valuable Goalie. Ian Doig
was awarded the Larry McElwain
memorial trophy as the top

Dennis Loughnane picked up th
only shutout of the evening.
Gary Ryan was chosen as Most .
Valuable Player. Robert Thomp-
son captured the Most Improved
Player trophy and Brad Campbell
took top honours as the Most
Valuable GOal tender: The Mid-
