his wood fires constantly going,
and bottling the finished product.
It sounds like a very ' busy
schedule, but for Mr. Axtmann it
is completely enjoyable, He said
his trees provide him with a
worthwhile hobby and lots of
fresh air and exercise. -
The average yearly production
from his trees is not very high.
However the 50-60 gallons of • ^
syrup he makes, means 2200
gallons of sap must be collected.
Jim Axtmann empties another sap bucket - a great
way to spend a Spring day.
A sure sign of spring is. the
production of maple syrup. Jim
Axtrnapn of R.R. 4, Walton is
normally only a school principal in
Ethel. However after March
every year he becomes one of the
busiest principals anywhere. That
is when •his sugar maples start to
run.
From then until the middle of
April most of his spare time is
devoted to setting up pails and
pipelines, collecting sap, keeping
