Katrina is welcome guest
(By Mab aT u rnb WI)
Mrs. Barbara ivers, a former
member of the taff some years
ago called at the Home and
visited Miss Turnbull, Mrs. Mary
Malcolm and Mr. 'Fred Zeigler
who were residents when Batbara
was with us.
Mrs. Evelyn Malcolm, Victoria
a• member of the staff,
delighted many .of .us when she
brought, Katrina, her French
silver poodle and her three
puppies three weeks old for us to
see. They were black but some
had a trace of "sifver. •
When-we picked them out of
their box to fondle them Kandy
showed her concern. She became
very animated and feared for
their safety as any watchful
mother would. She quieted down
when she was assured .nothing
would happen to her puppies.
Rev. E. G. Nelson of First
Presbyterian Church took the'
devotions Wednesday afternoOn.
With him were Misses Bess and
Peg Grieve. Peg was at the, piano
and played the accompaniment to
the hymns while Bess gave the
composer and story of the hymns
sung by the group.
"Jesus Loves Me this I Know".
One of the world's m ost popplar
hymns written by Anna Warner
an American, half a century tgo.
She loved children and also wrote
'many stories for them. "Whtka
Friend we Have in Jesus" was
written by Joseph Scriben,
university graduate who lived -a
quite fife and tried to he like
.Jesus. He wrote this hymn to
comfort his mother.
Bess Griyg_xead a poem "The
Gift of Friendship", a priceless
gift:which can neither be bought
or sold but fdrtunate and rich
indeed is the person who h as
enduring friendships.
Mr. Nelson spoke of Love
saying God so loved the world
that he gave His only begotten
son that whosoever believeth on
Him should not perish but have
everlasting life,
from first Corinthians where
Paul speaks to tht people extoling
the qua lilies of love.
Mr. Nelson spoke of to
different qualities of love, or
kinds of love. 'Love 61' man for a
woman; love of thing; of the
world, money. Real love comes
from the heart, he said, within
ourselves , and rises like' an
c. crflowing spring which
reminded him of springs' in
Godcrich.
I will leave rst Corinthians for
my readers to look op themselves
to get Paul's message on Love. It
begins "Tho" I speak with the
tongues of men and of angels and
have not love I am as sounding
brass or a 'tinkling cymbal." He
goes on to give the qualities of
love in more detail. Th is is a
beautiful passage of scripture.
Other hymns sung were , "My
Faith Looks up to Thee" "Unto
the Hills".
The meeting then drifted into
an informal chat with Mr. Nelson
and the Grieve girls which 'was
enjoyed by all.
A special thanks to Rev. Nelson
and Misses Grieve, of
Egmondville for an inspiring,
message. tf
Several residents enjoyed the,
take-out Valentine 'dinner on
Wednesday prepared by the
U.C.W. of Northside United
Church.
