• George Burnett, of Cheesy, a
young lad, bas been sentenced to the
Ontario Reformatory for Boys for
two years for stealing a horse from
Elias Melhonsen, Elmwood.
The little daughter of John Mc-
Kay, con, 8, Tackersmith, Huron
county, was so badly scalded by
boiling water, the other day, that
her life is in danger,
Messrs. Wilson and Henderson, of
Brantford, recently patented a bi-
cycle chain rivet. They have sold
the patent in the United States for
$17,000.
Thursday morning about 2 o'clock
a dim light was observed in the
general store - of Hampton S. Co.,
Mount Forest, and, burglars being
suspected, notice was given Mr.
Hampton, who on going to the store,
tried the front door, when the burg-
lar jumped through the large glass

Statistical.
For the. present season, ending
October 19, 1,388,001 boxes of cheese
left Montreal. against 1,293,607
boxes for the same period in 1893.
But when we come to butter what a
falling off meets the eye: 70,17a.

in 1894, for the same period. Canada
reached low-water mark in butter
exports in 1870, when the value was
only 8310,131. In the year ending
June 30, 1894, we had come up to
