The Huron County Branch of
the Architectural Conservancy'of
Ontario is celebrating Heritage
Day this year. The holiday,
scheduled for February 16 this
year will be declared a national
statutory holiday by next year,
'me Conservancy hopes.
But to celebrate this year the
Conservancy is sponsoring essay
and projects competitions in all
the secondary school' in the
county.Entries will be on display
at Central Huron S.S. in Clinton
on ' Monday, February 16. at 8
p.m., according to Joan V'alden
Broeck of the Architectural
Conservancy.
This date has been selected, as
unlike July 1 and Labour Day,
this holiday will fall during the
school year and so provide an
opportunity roc student projects
and exhibitions to help stimulate
a greater interest in our national
identity as represented in our
culture, history and national
estate - those buildings of unique
interest Within our communities.
"It is hoped.that you will take a
moment on' this day to reflect
'upon the condition of your own
local historical buildings. . Only
'through our own Vigilance will we
be able to preserve our historical
landmarks to hold in trust for
future generations." Mrs.' Van
Broeck says.
