After 15 season games the
bantam hockey team, won 14 and
lost one. Playoffs started Monday
February 9, in Mitchell. This is
the first round in the OMHA play
downs. After beating Mitchell
three times in the regular season
Mitchell camemp big jumping to a
'4-1 second period lead. Seaforth
outplayed and outshot the Mit-
chell squad but had 3 goal posts.
5eatur.th came out strong in the
third period.
Danny McClure in net for
Seaforth shut the door to Mitchell„
and lan Doig who was playing
heads up hockey fired 2 goals to
move within 1 goal of Mitchell.
With 1:34 left in the game John
Nielson picked up a Doig rebound
and tied the game. This forced a
10 minute overtime. Again. Sea-
forth had it over Mitchell like a
blanket. Joey Anstett had the
chances hitting two more goal
posts but Mitchell still had lady
luck and the old horseshoe on
their side because with 34
seconds left in the overtime
Mitchell got a goal in off a
Seaforth defenseman,
The game was costly to Joey
Vanbakel. Joey got checked into
the boards and aot his left arm
broken. 't•A speedy recovery,

at it again after overtime ended in
a 2-2 tie. 'Seaforth again had it all
over Mitchell oulshooting and

again old lady luck was on their
side.
Mitchell opened the scoring at
7:47 of the first period on a goal
by Steve Elliott. Seaforth evened
the score at 5:33 of the second on
a goal by JOey Anstett from Mike
VanderVelden.. The teams stayed
this way until 13:01 of the third
period when Steve Steinman
.skated in on a brake away beating
the goalie Dave Fischer with a
hard _ wrist shot;'Mitchell pulled.
their goalie and with 1 second left
in regular time lady luck was still
behind Mitchell and tbey got a
goal forcing the overtime.
Seaforth got outlucked missing
2 clear shots at the goal. The
Seaforth team now goes back to
Mitchell on Saturday .14 February

E~d ttor's Note: This. letter was
printed in a WOAA newsletter
sent to coaches.Seaforth Minor
Hockey asked us to print it, as it
concerns all parents who have
children in sports.
Dear Mom and Dad:
I hope that you won't get mad
at me for writing this letter, but
you always told me never to keep
anything back that ought to be
brought out into the open. So here
goes.
Remember the other morning
when -my team was playing and
both of_ you were sitting and
watching. Well, I went after the
puck in front of the net tying to
score and fell. I could hear you
yelli ngat the goalie for getting in
my way and tripping me. It
wasn't his fault, that is what he is
supposed to do. Then do you
remember yelling at me to get on
the other side of the blue line.
The coach fold me to cover my
man, and I couldn't if I listened to
you, and while I tried to decide
they scored against us. Then you
Novices haven't lost
goal.
Sunday was stormy and

yelled" at me for being in the
wrong place. You shouldn't have
jumped all over the coach for
pulling mb off, the ice. He is a
pretty good coach, and a- 'good
guy, and he knows what he is .
doing. Besides he is just a
volunteer coming down at all
hours of the, day helping us kids, •
just because he loves the sport.
And then neither of you spoke to
me the whole way homei I guess
you were pretty sore at nile-for not
getting a goal. I tried awfully
hard, but I guess I am a crummy
hockey playe But I love the
game, it is lots o un being with
the other kids a learning to
compete. It it a good sport, but
how can 1 learn if you don't show
me a good example, and, anyhow
I thought I was playing hockey for
fun, to have a good time, and to
learn good sportsmanship. I
didn't know that you were going
to get so upset, because 1 couldn't
become a star.
