The State Journal, of Topeka,
' liansas, of the 9th . inst., makes the
:following reference to a 'Somewhat
unpaleasant predicament in 'which an
old Huron county boy recently found
.hunself. It says : "Dr. J. H-McCasey,
who is still superintendent of the
State insane Asylum, was given a
;good thrashing,yesterday by Book-
keeper Morey, one of the 'employees
of the institution. Dr. McCasey, who
is large and robust. and 1has.since his
,connection with the asylum boasted
,ef his ability as a scientific boxer,
Was laid on the floor and hand his
face launched by book-keeper Morey,
who is.a little pian and is just re -
covertly from a spell of 'sickness.
The trouble between Dr. McCasey
sand Morey, which has existed for
esevera:l .months, came to Al climax
• yesterday when Morey, who has
been sick, applied to MMCesey for
:another :elan to assist hiih i11 his
duties pis book-keeper of zlae anstitu-
:loin. MeCasey, refused to give hire
the assistant asked for, and thc re-
sult was that ;Morey started in to
whip his superior because he thought
he 1#at,t1 Ideserved it. Dr.' 1leCasoy,
Was thlrow& down on the floor and
Morey was on top of hint punching
the ,d(4 tor's face with his fist, when
an attendant, attracted' by the cries
of Me 'Casey, :came to his rescue and
pulled Money .Off." Of course Huron'
boys go more to brain than to muscle
and invariably achieve more success
in that dircetioln than in the other.
The position which Dr. McCasey
holds shows that he has not negleeted
the former, although he may have .
neglected the latter.

The gripe messenger has again in-
vaded our neighborhood giving us
another warning of the uncertainty
of. life, and leaving in his wake
sorrowing friends and a bereaved
family. Miss Jetuima Ross, youngest
daughter of Mr. Duncan Ross. of the
4th con. of Kinloss, died at her home
on Wednesday, the 17th ult., after a'
lingering illness which she bore with
great fortitude. Last fall she con-
tracted a severe cold which settled an
her lungs, and medical aid proved
unable to remove it. On Friday
afternoon tihe remains were followed
by a large number of friends to the
South Kinloss cemetery where they
were solemnly entered, Deceased,
who was only sixteen years old,was
a great favorite and her early death
cast a gloom over the eornmunity.
The bereaved family has the sym-
pathy of a wide circle of friends in
their affliction..-3f.r, Obert. _it'win

1 On Monday afternoon of last week,
Malls. H. B. O'Connor, postmaster of
Teeswater, who has been in ill health
'for some time, fell down suddenly and
became unconscious. Medieal aid
was siumnoned at once, but nothing
could be done to stay the hand of
the destroyer, consciousness never
,returned, and shortly after eight
o'clock in the evening the worn
spirit took its flight, Heart failure
-was the cause of death. The demise
of a man so well known and so
generally: respected has caused a
wide -spread feeling of sorrow. The
funeral took place on Thursday and

which Order he was au old anti

Fall Care of Sheep.
It its not uncommon, and especially
now that the sheep trade is quiet, to
turn the rani among the ewes and
trust t0 lack. In many cases the re-
sults of such a course may be all
right, but not. always. There- is a
risk ,of being ininus at crop of lambs
thefollowing spring. A much better
plan is to house the rani each night.
so that a feed of grain may be given
him, and when turned out in the
morning he should be carefully ob-
served b;; the shepherd for tech or.
fifteen minutes. This may seer»., to_
a great many, too .troublesome, and.
to such we suggest an easier ,plan,
that will at least prevent'a total ifaxii-
ixre. The rain should in all eases
have his lirrast painted, and for this
purpose red ochre mixed with lard
answers well. If painted once • in
three or `.our days, the served ewes
can be detected. As.soon as the Hoek

whether rife first used ram was to- be
depended on or not. There are al-
most always a few ewes in a flock
that will not breed from one ram,
but will in the case of pother.
