snow making conditions ideal for
winter sports, snowmobile
operators acmes, the province
have taken advantage of „the
-situation and have made an early
start on the season's death and
injury rate attributed directly to
snow vehicles.
New snow vehicle legislation
has recently been passed by the
Ontario government in an effort
to prevent some of the needless
slaughter caused by
snowmobilers annually.
To acquaint the public' with
some of the important points of
the new legislation, the OPP
request all .snowmobilers to
becolhe' acquainted with the
following:
Registration
All snowmobiles will have to be'
registered at the nearest licence
issuing office, regardless of
whether they have been
registered, before, unless the
owner has already registered the
vehicle for 1976. All snow
vehicles must be registered
within six days of purchase or
sale. In addition to regislration
you must have a permit to drive a
motorized snow vehicle, unless
you are driving it only on property
owned or occupied'by yourself.
Driving
Generally, you may not drive
on the serviced portion (from
shoulder to shoulder) of a King's
Highway or secondary highway,
except to cross, and this you must

Banks have'changed, according
ba, Einar' Smith speaking to
dembers of the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture in
EXeter, last week. It used to be.
that .bankers felt that they were.
better than, their customers, Mr.
Smith, an Exeter bank manager
said, but not anymore. .
It used' to be, that roans were
approved or rejected on the basis
of the assets of the customer.
That made it easy for_the banker
for he didn't run any risks. Now
the banker will look at the ability
to repay, which entails morework
for the banker and also for the
customer.
Mr. Smith, who will come to
the farm with his van if necessary
to4eliest hand Where money is
to be used, operates the first

a reasonable security and will

' going out to buy.
. Your bargaining position is that
much stronger, he said, if you
have cash in your hand. All banks
have some kind of eirogram to "
help the farmer decide if a
venture is leasable. If it is, the
assets are less important than
repayment capability' is.
It is to the advantage of the
lender to help the farmer, 'get' .
ahead, for the better off the
farmer is, the better it is for the
lender, the manager said.
In the question period following
the address the difficul4 of young,
beginning farmers in securing
loans was discussed. The bank
doesn't think that a .young =man
can start with a small acreage to
expand until it i's Viable. They
would be considered to be hobby
farmers. Some collateral from
dad or uncle 'is necessary.
In other business before the.
meeting which.was chaired by the
first vice prgsident Alan Walper,
it was thou' ilt that the Huron
Federation should not protest the
seat belt law, as there are enough
issues pertaining to farming
Without adding more civil issues
to it. , •
