The second contest of the night had the Kings blasting the Stars 10-3. The third and final shinny match of the night saw the Wings crush the Hawks by a 10 - 4 .score. The Blues continind their quest ' for first ' place by •outclassing. the Flyers, most of the game. Art Strong, Greg Rau and Pat Conneliy scored to g,ive the Blues a 3 - 1 first period lead. Joe McLean counted the lone Flyers goal late in the period. 'Connelly, with his second, Ron . Dale and Ben Akkei .comPleted the Blues scoring. . Bill Price -chipped in 5 assists for the Blues. Price has only scored 7 times this season ,bnt has 16 assists to beeciine one ofthe leaders in this department, . • The Blues dominated for most of the game but at times' the Flyers showed flashes of making the ,game interesting. Ross Govier thwarted most of the good Flyer Chances and had a little help from the goal posts on a couple of occasions.. The major mistake in the Flyers_ game was the length of shifts. The Blues changed quickly ' while the Flyers stayed on a, little too long. As a result the Blues found themselves with' 2 on 1 and on 1 breaks most of the night. The big win kept thee Blues within striking distance of . first place. They remain 2 points behind:the first place Wings and set the stage for a showdown match with the Wings in two eAs .The Flyers meanwhile remain in fourth spot and it looks as if that, is the position where they will remain. Their' biggest problem has been inconsistency. They have ''an excellent defense but their forward units have had their ups and downs, The defense and goalie therefore, have had most of the work and they have found themselves behind early in 4 lot of games. If everything were to go well the team could surprise a few people before the season ends. The Stars came. back to earth last Sunday night. They had been riding hi0 as a result of, their 6-4 Upset win over the Wings tle ,previous week." ' The Kings represented cold, hard r eality however., and, the result was a 10-3 romp fOr the Kings over the Stars.: Murray Connelly sthrted the ball rolling early. and by the time the first periled elided the KingS had built up.),..7.1. lead. , . With ten minutes left in the game the Score was 10-1 in the Wings favour. The red men let up considerably and as. a result Kevan Henderson, Jack Price and "Ray Devereaux counted for the Hawks to make the .final, score, 10-4. • Along with Broome's fair goals the Wings got a three goal performance from Kevin Broome. The win by the Kings moved diem within four points of first. plic,e Wings. If they can defeat tpe Wings next week it could create a three Way-battle for first' place. „ The loss for the Stars- was their 8th of the season. They remain one point behind the Hawks and ' have one game in hand. They will • have to play much better than last Sunday if they hope to overhaul the: Hrks. The Wings continued -their . debts assault on the record books last ' • ,Sunday with their 10-4win aver. the Hawks. One record. fell la Sunday night and numerous others are threatened by the Wings: shooters. Danny Muir ,broke his 'own assist 'Mark of 18 for 'One spson. He set 'up tivo goals to/bring his seasons total to,". 19 in just ten games. With every assist he gets from here on in he sets a league record. Muir's . line mate, Dave Browne, scored four goals and added two assists for a six point night. Broome's six "points /fives him 34 for the season. This ties him with the qld mark set by Muir two years, ago. With five games left Broome has a good chance setting a new point standard. The league record for goals in one season, is 24 by Don Hulley. Broome has scored • 20 in ten games. He needs fiv.e goals in the Wings, last five games to break the record. ' \ The third member Of the flying' ' threesome, Brian Leonhardt, has 32 points this season and he also has a- good chance at the scoring crown. It marks ,the first time in I.H.L. history that 3 nat, mbers of. otie line could score 30 or more points each. The season could, also see as many as ten players reach the 20 point plateau which. could ,be another I,H.L. record. ,ale Kennedy, 'Bill Price, Ke oig, Dan Muir, Brian 1..onhardt and Dave Broome all ,stand a chance at 20 assists, each for the season, another • league record.
