ILLUMISTON.
(Intended for last issue.)
On Tuesday last, an old gentleman
named Stephenson and his son, clrove
up from Galt to the residence of the
late Alex. Davidson, with whom they
were well acquainted, and . had
supper. They had not heard of Mr.
Davidson's death and on being in-
formed that he wasdead,Mr.Stephen-

gentlemen bad been close friends
for years. The son was to remain
over night, while, the old gentleman
took a walk over to the town line to
a farm owned by him, but worked :
by a Mr. Smith, where he was to '
stay for the night. On the way and ;
only a short distance from MY.
Davidson's, he received a paralytic
stroke. He was found about 7 o'clock
by Mr. Brooks, and noticing the all
lying helpless on the wayside, and
not knowing who he was, and not
finding anyone who could identify
him, he brought him to Harriston.
On Wednesday he was identified by
his son, who had him removed to the
residence of the late Mr. Davidson,
where he died on Thursday night
last, never having spoken a word to
anyone. On Priday,his remains were
brought back to Harriston where
they were put on board the train for
Galt —During the severe storm of
last Friday night, the .barn of lir.
Thos. Grills, whose farm adjoins the
town, was struck by lightning, and
it, with all his implenients and this
season's crops, was totally consumed.
Insured in the Howiek Insurance

contents. Despite this amount, Mr.
Grills will be a heavy loser.—On
Wednesday of last week, Dr. Fergu-
son, of Ethel, whose parents reside
near the town, was united in marri-
age to Miss C. E. Davis, of Ethel.—
Quite a'number from around here
are away at Toronto this week.—
Our fall show, which is to be held on
the Nth and 27th, promises to be
one of the best in the Discory of the
.society.—We have. not heard if our
boys of the High 'School intend
organizing a foot ball team this fall
or not, but if they do, local teams
may be sure of meeting defeat as
they will have a much stronger team
this year than last.

The heavy rains of Friday and
Sunday nights were greatly -needed,
but they were almost too late to do
very much good to the root crops,
and some damage was done by the
wind and lightning.—Mr. W. Hawke
has rented his farm to Mr. Alex.
Porter, jr., and he will shortly re-
move his faintly to Wellesley.—Miss
Annie Cowdee is at home on a visit.
----Mr. Will Fs -re is attending the
Model School in Clinton.—On 'Mon-

oldest settlers of Turnberry, to their
