EAST HURON LIBERA.LS.
A. Convention for the purpose of
selecting a candidate, to carry the
Liberal banner tis the next Dominion
election. in the East Riding of Huron,
will be held in the Town Hall, Brus-
sels, on Friday, Seetember 21st, com-
mencing at 1 p.m. Addresses are
expected from Dr. Macdonald, M. Pe
Jae. McMillian, M. P.; Moe. Gibson,
M.P.P., M. Y. McLean, 3f. P. P., and
others.. A meeting of the Executive
will be held at 10.80 o'clock, at which
the members are asked to be present
-without fail. Each polling sub -divi-
sion is entitled to elect five members
to represent them at the Convention
'Let -there be a, rousing rally from
and as soon as prices advance on the
enter side of the Imo a much larger
business is looked for. There is
nothiug' like low tariffs, or no tariffs
at all, to promote profitable business
between nations.
FAinign's AnvocATE: The Empire,
of Toronto, in discussing the Special
features of the new United States
-tariff, concludes that " the tendency
muloubtedly, be toward stimu-
lating. commerce and a larger sale
ofeCanadian products to the States,"
etc., inasmuch as the duties have
been lowered on many articles ex-
ported from the Dominion. This is
the natural consequence of removing
restrictions from trade, and. a much
cheaper way of helping the fanner
than taxing him in support of a lot
, of such alarming proceedings as the
- vote of an annual subsidy, or bonus,
of $750,000 for a long term of years
- to the owners of fast Atlantic steam-
ships. As the Empire remarks, Can -
every municipality.
