In the hustl& an bustle and crass commercialism of the times, this peaceful tableau is re-enacted a thousand times acro s the nation in church and school concerts. The tra-' ditl6h is one that should be encouraged because it" is easy, to forget the real reasons for Christmas. "For unto its a child is born ... and the government shall be upon his shoulder ...' When the spiritual ideal is born in the souls of men, it is as a child. Walking in darkness, either moral or physical, is the death of joy or hope or self-respect and it describes the' condition of many people in this tired world. But the light of Christmas cab still shine brightly into weary, heartbroken lives. Even though you may be tired, driven, worried, weak, ill, depressed or just plain .worn=.out, the Christ spirit can rejuvenate you. You have been trying to'carry the burden of self-government on your shoulders. The Child is born when you turn over self-government to a Power greater than you. "And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. We are prone'ro take such words as 'wonderful' and make them trite and hackneyed. But. to be truly wonderful im- "f k' d Id his religion Was summed up in the first two words of the Lord's Prayer. You would, no longer be affected.by what 9thers think of you or say to you or what they would do -to Xou. Most of us are.so conscious of -what others think of us we no longer know who we really are. We are ruled by outer things and what the Jones's are3ioing and getting. We are worried about our jobs, •our paycheques, what the boss thinks of us, even #•bout what our, own children think of us. We live these "liyes of quiet, desperation" when we could becom8 the sons and daughters of God. That, to rhe, is one of the greatgst of all the gre'&Wr mises in the Bible: Ye have the power to become the sons of God. Who but God could make,a promise such as that? And it is His birthday we celebrate at this time of year, ` the day that Jesus who became the Christ, was born. Does it matter whether Dec: 25 is the exact historical date of His birth? Does it matter whether you are a Christian. a Jew, a Buddhist, a Moslem, a Hindu, a Taoist, an agnostic or an atheist? It is the hope of all imankind which is celebrated at this time of year; the .hope for peace and joy and kindness and giving and sharing and, most of all, loving. For if there is one thing this world lacks it is love. es miracles and that s what can ha en : man in cou Someone once said that love makes -the world go 'round. . p pp If that is true, one cannot help but think that it must surely cognize the power of God. - PEEWEE'S AGAIN IN DUBLIN —For the first time R. Lane L'.
