4-H girls sell poppies
Hensel! 4H club was held on
October 21 it the'Hensall United
Church. The roll call, a basic
ingredient for bread and 'what it
does, was answered by 12 girls.
Mrs. Pepper demynstrated bak-
ing and the rising & basic white
bread.
-Everybne sat down and samp-
led the freshly baked brown and
white bread., Some white bread•
was sent home for parents to
taste.
Hensall United Church Service
The Rev. Don Beck, was in
charge of the United Church
Service and preached on the topic
"Doing Love" dwelling on the
two greatest commandments, lov-
ing God and loving our neighbour
Mrs John Turkheim was at the
organ, and the choir sang the
anthem, "Jubilate, Amen". The
flowers were from the funeral of
Mr. George Thompson. Following
the service, Mr. Howard Scane,
on behalf of the congregation;
presented Mr. Harry Hoy with a
Shaving Kit, the occasion being
his retirement after many years
as Church caretaker.

The third meting of the
Bun-ny Girls, was held on October
20 at Mrs. Stephenson's home.
The roll call "At what meal do
you eat the most bread, and
in what form(s)?", was answered
by all members present.
For discn, Mrs. Stephen-
son talked about Batter Breads,
and discugsed plans for Acheive-
ment Day. Mrs. Consitt demon-
strated how to make batter rolls
and each member tobk part in
stirring the dough.
The fourth meeting of the
Varna II 4H club was held on
October 25 at Mrs. Bill Consitt's.
Mrs. Stephenson discussed maki•
ing Sweet Rolls. Mrs, Consitt
demonstrated, and, members
participate-d in making the rolls.
The next meeting will be held
on November 3, at Mrs. K.'
Stephenson's.
In the evening Mrs. Mabel
Shirray of Hensall and Mrs.
Freida Scotchmer of Bayfield
poured tea. Miss Bonnie Makins
and Mrs.. Brenda Miskie of
Goderich 'served the guests.
A three-tiered wedding cake
centered an array Of pictures •of
both families from babyhood to
great great grandparents.
The couple received many
cards, gifts and good wishes.

Day. A special Remembrance Day
Service will held at St., Paulus
Anlican Church on Sunday Nov-
ember 9, -at 9:45a.m. and later
Legion members will parade 'at
the Cenotaph at 1 la.m. when
wreaths will be laid. A short
,service will be held at the
Cenotaph.

his father and mother, Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd r Making celebrdted
their golden wedding
anniversary.
' They were the first couple to be
married in- the Bayfield United
Church manse after church union
took place and were married by
the Rev: H.F.Kennedy on
'October 10th, 1925:
• Lloyd Makins is the son of the
late Wm. and Mary Ann Makins
of near Varna and Mrs. Makins is
the former Esther Talbot the
daughter of the late. Wm. Henry
and Elizabeth Talbot of Stanley
Township,
Mrs. Freida Scotchmei was
bridesmaid for her sister and Roy
Scotchmer was best man.
Four children were borri of this
union, Arnold in Bayfield, and
Marion in London, -two sons are
deceaed. There are six grand-
children.

anniversary in 1939 in the same

Mrs. Makins wore" a
floor-length gown ' in autumn
shades accentuated with -?white
orchid corsage and ar gold locket
and earrings, a gift from her
husband.
Guests were greeted at the
door by their son Arnold,
daughter Marion, husband Ken
and son Jim. Their daughter-in-
law Ruth escorted the guests to
the tea room. Joanne Mackie
attended the guest book. In the
afternoon and Stephen Mackie in
the evening. The tea table looked
attractive with a handmade
crochet tablecloth centered with a
centrepiece of gold and rust
mums 'and flanked on either side
with white fiftieth anniversary
candles.
