In past seasons the opening series of games usually- p‘rovjded lots of scoring and a lac t of defence. This season's openers provided no exception to the rule as a total of 35 goals were scored in the 3 games played., Thp Wings started it early with a 9 - 0 romp over the Stars in the opening game. The second contest saw the 'Blues nip the Kings 7 - 6 with a goal late in the game and, the Hawks blitzed the Flyers 10-3 in the late contest. The Wings ' started slowly playing in even turns with" the Stars. Ken Doig, connected at 12:00 of the first period and that turned out to be all the Wings needed. Theycpumped in' 8 morel goals Scores high in 11-11. openers FEBRUARY 1 7:00 Hawks Wings 8:30 Hawks Stars 8:30 Blues, Flyers and held the Stars scoreless to give Gary Osbourne the shut-out. Hat Trick ' Dave Broome and Brian Leonhardt each scored the hat trick' with 'Danny Muir rounding out the scoring. Casey .Klaver also netted 3 goals and this was to become the fourth' hat-trick of the night. A record fifth' hat trick came off the stick of Ken BurgesS and 13,ay Anstett completed the Hawks' scoring- Clive Buist and John Nash with a' pair did the scoring for the Flyers.
