attended the. Jamboree at the
Capital Music Hall and visited
Niagara Falls on their way home

Thanksgiving dinner guests of
Mr. and' Mrs. Bill Dowson and
family on Sunday were Mrs. Ella
Jewitt, Donny, Larry and Kenny,
and Joanne Gibson of Seaforth,

Mrs. Geo. Reid was in
jtayfield from Tuesday to
fihursday and ' attepded two
birthday parties for Mrs. Ed.
Reid, one at her home, and a
dinner party at the home of Mrs.
Larson.
Mr. Hank Broeze has been
transferred from Clinton Hospital
to St. J oseph's, in London for
surgery. We hope he will have a
good recovery.
Friends and neighbours of Mr.
ti d Mrs. Carl Kuhl gathered at
e home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Chessell on Saturday evening for
a farewll party and presented
them with a gift for their new
home in Caryndale.
Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Hayter
visited their daughter Darlene, in
Guelph on Sunday. They drove
through areas where fields of
# grain had never been cut, and
saw other fields which were cut
and not combined because of the
overabundance of rain in those
areas. Farmers in this area have
been more fortunate, with some
of them reporting above average
yields.
Varna •41-H News
The first meeting of the Varna
II 4-H Club was held on October 6

at the home of Mrs. Keith
Stephenson. The meeting was
opened by saying the 4-H Pledge.
The girls discussed the
different requirements of this
club arid had the election of
officers. The president is Dianne
Consitt, secretary is Bev Cantelon
and phone girl is Mary Ann
Verhulst.
Mrs. Stephenson discussed the
basic methods of making freezing
bread and Mrs. Consitt
demonstrated. Later ail of the
members had a chance to knead
the bread dough and Mrs. Consitt
shaped it into loaves.

The second meeting of Varna II
4-H was held at Marjory Consitt's
at 2:30 on October 12.
Members started' the meeting
by repeating the 4-H pledge. Roll
call was "A basic ingredient of
bread and what it does". It was
answered by all members.
, They took up discussion
questions. Joan Stephenson
demonstrated making white
bread and all took turns shaping
the loaves, then they ate some of
the freezer whole wheat bread
made' last week.
The club was named the
"Bunny Girls".

4-H club "Let's Bake Bread" was
held at Brenda and Bonnie
Dowson's on Monday night.
The president, Kay Hill,
opened the meeting with the 4-H
pledge and conducted the
business.
The leaders,Mrslim Keyes and
Mrs. Bill DoWson discussed bread
making teohniques and storage of
bread and rolls.
The freezer Whole Wheat
Bread made at the first meeting
was baked and Mrs.
demonstrated Basic White Bread.
After the meeting the girls got
a chance to sample the breads
made plus a loaf Bonnie had
made with graham flour. It tasted
good with homemade strawberry
and. peach jams.

The autumn Thanksgiving ser-
vice of Brucefield United Church
U.C.W. was held October 14 with
a .good attendance.
Mrs. John Henderson and Mrs.
B. Walters were in charge. Mrs.
Walters opened the meeting with
a poem,."Thanksgiving", folldw-
ed by Hymn, "For the Beauty of
The Earth", with Mrs, Pearl
McBeath at the piano. The
offering was received by Doris
Selling and Grace Thomson and
dedicated: Mrs. Henderson gave
a readirig "Thanks" Hymn "We
Plough The Field" was sung. .
The guest speaker Miss Elaine
Townshend a free lance writer
and columnist for County news-
papers, was introduced by Mrs.
Gerald Rathwell. Miss Town-
shend spoke on observance of
Thanksgiving through the world,
which-was most interesting.
Mrs. Mel Graham presented
Elaine with a gift and thanked her
for coming.
The business portion was chair-
ed by thecpresident Mr. Triebner.
The anniversary services will be
held on October 26th. Rev. E.
Stephens sang a solo, "How
Great Thou Art" and rendered
several selection on the piano.
Lunch was served by the
Committee closing the meeting
with prayer.

MARGARET BEAN
The former Margaret Elizabeth
Pepper of Hensall, wife of the late
Frank T. Bean passed away at
Queensway ''Nursing Home on
Saturday in her 94th year.
Surviving are sons, John of
Paris, Stanley, St. Mary's and a
daughter Mrs. Rochus (Margaret)
Faber of Kippen. Also 11 grand
children, and 26 great grand-
children.
The funeral service was from
Caramel• Presbyterian Church,
Hensel] on Monday at 2 p.m. with
Rev. W.D. Jarivs officiating.
Interment in Baird's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stan Bean, John
Bean, Russell Faber, Ross Faber,
Roy Pepper, and Joe McLellan.

George ThoMpson passed away
at St. Joseph's ,Hospital, London
on Sunday, in , his 85th year. He
was the husband of the former
Eva Giles and uncle of Wesley
_and John Thompson of Blenheim,
and Bill of Trenton, New Jersey
Funeral service- was from the
Bonthron Funeral Home, Tues. at
2 p.m. with Rev. Donald Beck
officiating. Interment Hensall
Union Cemetary.

Mrs. B. MacGregor
Robbie Lavery, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robt, Lavery had
misfortune San:May evening at
the farm of Harold Elder. He,
slipped in the auger in the corn
picker and severed one toe,
fractured others, and fractured
his ankle.
He was taken to South Huron
Hospital, Exeter where he was
attended and is recovering.
' Amber Lodge Plans Euchre
The regular meeting of Amber
Rebekah Lodge was held on
Wednesday evening with, the
Noble Grand Mrs, Bertha
MacGregor in the chair assisted
by the Vice Grand Mrs. Dorothy
Parker. The members draped the
charter in memory of the late
Sister Lillian Blackwell. Mrs.
Olga Chipchase L.S.N.G. report-
ed for the Finance committee and
Mrs. Dorothy Parker, Vice Grand
reported for the visiting commit-
tee. Tickets were available for the
Grand Master's banquet to be
held in the Huron Centennial
School on October 24th. Plans
were made for a Euchre Party to
be held on November 5th.
Returns from Western Visit
Mrs. Hilda Beer returned home
`after spending three week's visit-
ing with her daughter and son-in-
law Captain, Ralph D. McArthur,
Mrs. McArthur, Mac and Cam in
Edmonton, Alberta.
Mrs. Jack Simmons and her
sister Mrs. Helen Ferringo of
Albany, New York are holidaying
on a three week trip to California.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rannie
Mrs. Louise Mitchell returned
to the home Saturday from St.
Joseph's Hospital London. Her
son Lesley, Crediton and grand
daughters, Barbara and Brenda
visited her.

Mrs. Pearl Case of London
visited with, friends in the village
with them, how we change them
and the results of those changes
was the subject of the United
Church Service conducted by
Rev. Don Beck. The Choir sang
the anthem "Gracious Spirit,
Love Divine,. with Mrs. John
Turkheim at the organ.
Several High School aged
young people from the Hensall
area met at Hensall United
Church on Sunday evening and
decided to meet regularly twice a
month on the first and third
Sunday evenings. The first
regular meeting will be
November 2 at 7:30 p.m. when
officers for the new group will be
elected.
