Last Sunday the District "C"
Fall Convention was held in
Meaford, Ontario) Branch 32 of
Meaford being the host for this
occasion. Members from nearly
all the Branches in District C were
in attendance.
The meeting convened at 10 00
hours, and the opening ceremon-
ies were conducted by the District
Commander Comrade Cecil Rick-
ard after which the President of
Branch 32, Comrade Gord Wha-
len welcomed the large gathering.
Deputy District Commander,
Comrade Herman Young• then
introduced the head officials.
After the minutes were read and
.the Zone Commanders reports
were given, Elwood Daly, a
rejnesentative .from the D.V.A.
.gave a talk on the work the
Department was doing and how
the work load will increase as
Veterans grow older.
The meeting recessed at 11.55
hours • and the parade fell in at`
12.15 hours, and marched to the
Cenotaph for a short service. Two
pipe bands -led the parade, one
leading section consisting of
members from Zone C 1 and C 2
and the other leading members
from Zone C 3. and C 4, the large
colour party marched between the
four platoons. The President of
the Ontario Provincial Command,
Comrade Dave Capperauld took
the salute. The pirade then
marched to the Meaford arena,

the banquet.
Among the head table guests,
were the Mayor of Meaford,
Donald Ferguson, M.P. Dr. 'Gus"
Mitges and M.P.P. Bob McKes-
sock. The guest speaker was
Dave Capperauld, Provincial
President. After the banquet the
ladies' were excused and the
meeting resumed. The business
being completed at 17 15 hours,
Comrade Cec. Rickard, District
Commander conducted the clos-
ing ceremonies.
Delegates attending from
Branch 156, were Comrade Allan
Nicholson, District Poppy Chair-
man, Comrade Cleave Coombs,
Zone Commander, Zone C 1,
Comrade Gordon Scott, Zone
Secretary, Comrade George Hays
President of Branch 156 and John
Baker, also attending the Conven-
tion, were Mrs. Allen Nicholson,
Mrs. Cleave Coombs, Mrs. Gor-
don Scott and Dorothy Parke.
Last- Sunday evening before a
good crowd the Seaforth Cente-
naires upset the Clinton Jr. C
Mustangs by a 7-5 score to extend
their exhibition recored to 3-1.2.
Both teams played to win as' it
proved to be a fast exciting game.
Seaforth jumped into the lead
as Gary Phillips converted passes
from Randy McClinchy and Don
Nicholson. Then Dave McClure
moved the Centenaires up 2-0 as
Don Nicholson assisted. Clinton
fought back and with only 8
seconds left in the period beat
Mark Nelson as Brian Kennedy
narrowed the gap to 2-1.
The second period saw Clinton
carry the play and tie the score as
Dan Calquhoun scored from Mike
Gibbings ,and. Paul Priestrap.
Danny McPherpson then came
back on a pass frOm Jamie
Caldwell to put Seaforth back on
top. Clinton again scored in the
last few seconds of the period as
Paul Kelly evened the count at 3 a
piece. •
The third and final period saw
Seaforth take advantage of defen-
sive lapses as Danny McPher son
put the Centenaires back on top
again with Caldwell and Doig
drawing assists.
Dave Watts and Jamie Cald-
well then dug the puck out to Paul
Hulley as the Centenaires moved
up 5-3. teve Southgate put
Seafort in command as he
baked goods display. As soon as the bazaar was,
declared ()pen 'the baked goods were cleared up by

Centenaires beat
Clinton by 7-5
finished off a brilliant effort by
Don Heard and Gary Phillips.
Clinton fought back with two
quick goals as Steve Cook and
• Paul Kelly beat Louie Arts to put
Clinton back in contention only to
see Rick McDonald finish the
scoring on passes from Nicholson
and Phillips.
Clinton drew 10 minor penal-
ties as did Seaforth but Clinton
also drew two major high stic-
king penalties that proved costly
and Dan Colquhoun also received
a Game plus a major misconduct
penalty.
Seaforth played a strong ganie
throughout but the two stars for
the Centenaires were their goal-
tenders as Mark Nelson and Lou
Arts combined to stop 57 Clinton
shots.
Seaforth 5-Tavistock 5
Last Thursday evening Sea-
forth Centenaires travelled to St.
Marys for .an exhibition game
against the 'Tavistock Braves and
came out with a 5-5 tie.
Steve Southgate with a pair of
goals and Don Nicholson with a
hat trick prnvided all the Cente-
naires scoring as a late penalty
gave Tavistock the edge and
allowed a goal with 29 seconds
remaining fo give them the tie.
Seaforth received 12 of the 22
penaltie called and both teams
received a 10 minute misconduct
penalty. -
The Centenaires travelled to
Mitchell on Tuesday for - the
season opener and to Lambeth
'tonight (Thursday) then open at
home against the Tavistock
Braves Friday Oct. 24th with
game time 8:30.
