Death is something that nobody
thinks about until it strikes close
to home. In the past few years of
my life at Seaforth High, I have
felt the loss of two students; one
killed and ,one badly injured in
accidents and I have seen many
come in with broken le gs and
arms as results of minor accidents
Monday, we felt the loss of a
fellow student, Calvin Pressey
who died in a car accident on
Sunday. He is sadly missed by all,
especially the grade twelves who
miss his cheery laughter in the
classroomi. He brought happi-
ness and kindness into the 4ife of
many and was a friend to all. We
would like to express our deepest

When someone close to us dies,
especially if the person is our age,
we tend to think why couldn't that
person ,leave been one of us,
rather than that particular person
We wonder why 'some live and
some die and when will our turn
come. I often think back to, grade
shcool at a time like this and
remember a teacher I had who
often used the expression "More
roses on the pathway of life and
fewer on graves at the end of the
strife". I feel that everyone

Classes see
Benmiller
,e1
(By Sandra Hulley)
Last Monday' the level three
history and geography classes
went on their annual bus-trip to
Benmiller. The purpose of the trip
is to study geographical forma-
' tions in the area in order to find
out 'more about its. history. For
several years now the level three
classes have been doing this. But
this time things did not go as well
as they have in past years. Due to
a mixup the whole trip was done
over againby all of the classes on
Monday October 6. That trip had
much better results.

This week's Student Spotlight
is Bev. Brown. Bev, a grade 11
student is a hard worker in class
(but not necessarily at the subject
he's suppose to). His favourite
subject is Phys. Ed. Bev, is the
captain of his football team,
participates in lacrosse, and
fishes in his spare time. Bev is
going to join the school wrestling
team again this, year also.
Bev is his class representative
and tries hard to get his class
working, often threatening them
with violence. Bev is planning to
quit school after grade 12, and
join the police force!
(By Mary Lammerant)
This year the boys golf team is
doing really well. Last Friday the
boys golf team travelled to
Thames. Valley in London for ,
WOSSA There they competed and
placed second. That really is
something t o be prpud of. They
are-now qualified to go to OFSSA.
This year ,OFSSA 'is to be held in
Toronto. We all know that Cam
Doig, Steve Bennett, Ed Malkus
and Wayne Nigh will do their best
despite the fact that all the best
teams in Ontario will be compet-
ing.
Last Wednesday the Cross
Country team went to Exeter for
another successful race. The
senior girls again won the cham-
pionship with a score of 25 points.
Mary Lammerant placed second,
Barb. Doig, fifth, Jane Ribey
sixth, Patricia Menheere 12th.
The other runners also did very
well._
Te boys also ran and put on a
,good showing.
The senior girls also had a meet
in Toronto on Saturday,' October
4. They left on Friday evening
and stayed overnight at the
Airport Holiday Inn.
On Saturday morning they
went to York University in
Toronto where there were 257
girls competing in the girls race.
SDHS did well considering that
there were runners from all over
Ontario: Out of ,257 runners,
Mary Lammerant placed 41, Barb
Doig, 93, Jane Ribey 121, Patricia
Menheere 123 and Wendy Dors-
sers 155. Out of 35 schools,'
Seaforth placed 12th.
The course was only 11/2 miles
which is about 1-11/2 miles shorter
than all their other races.

Well it's all over for another
year, the magazine compaign
that is. LaSt week we reported
that ' the whole compaign was
lagging. This week we are rea fly
happy to say that the campaign
was a huge success. 'Somewhere
during last week, most students
suddenly became enthused and a
lot of them did go out and do their
best at selling the magazines.
Thanks to them, the goal of
$4500 was almost reached. Anna
Lee, the student council president
said that we were only a few
hundred dollars short of the
original goal. This is really great
considering that in the last few
years we didn't even nearly reach
our goal.
High salesman for the whole
campaign was Diane Godkin a
level one student who sold
thirty-five subscriptions.
Three students were tied for
second place. Rhonda Ferguson,
Nancy kunder and tessie Malkus
each sold twenty-two subscrip-
tions, Level 5 won the pizza party
