MRS. ANNIE COLE
Mrs. Annie (Eyre) Cole, widow
of the late William A. Cole passed
away in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter on Tuesday Odtober 7th in
her 81st year.
Surviving is one son Alvin,
R.R. 2', Staffa, one brother'
Campbell Eyre, Hensall, and two,
grandchildren, Donald and Jeah
Cole.
Funeral service was held from
the Bonthron Funeral Chapel on
,,,,Friday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev.
Donald Beck, officiating. . • „

Mr. Pullen discussed farming
in Huron County stating , that
/Huron had the most improved
farm land of all the counties in
Ontario. He also commented on
the services' available. He was'
introduced by IvIrs.R. Bell and
thanked by Mrs. Grant MacLean.
Mrs. Ernest Whitehouse was in .
charge of the program and
opened by reading "Yesterday".
Mrs. H. Caldwell commented on
the motto, "Take time to stand
and stare at the wonders
everywhere".;
The roll call was answered by
naming "a product we would lack
if the farmer never came back".
Mrs. Grade DrummOnd, Public
relations officer, presented a gift
to the 4-H club leaders of the
garden club, Mrs. M eGregor,
Mrs. Beane, Mrs. Collins and
Lynn Alderdice., Mrs. Vern
Alderdice gave the report of the
County Rally at Belgrave
Mrs. Al Hoggarth, 1st Vice
President, chaired the business
portion and read.a poem "What is'
a farmer?"
Mrs. R. Bell conducted a
contest and Mrs. C. Pullman gave
courtesy remarks. Mrs. Grant
MacLean and Mrs. Al Hoggarth
served lunch.

Monday.
Mrs. Walter Scott gave the
history of quilts and commented

National Convention.

A fund is being set up to aid
Mrs. Elva ,Pressey and family
after the recent death of Calvin in
a Highway accident on October 5,
as the remaining children at home
are still all attending school,
Donations may be left at either of
the banks at Hensall. Please mark

Fund Association".
Unit 4 of Hensall U.C.W. met
on ,Oct. 2 with 17 members
answering the roll call with an
interesting event of the summer
holiday. Mrs. James McAllister
chaired the meeting and opened
with Galations 6.9 and gave the
story of Dr. Switzer, followed by
prayer.
Mrs. Goerge Armstrong gave a
fine devotional on her
interpretation of the closing
prayer that is sung at the
conclusion of the Church Service.
She read from the :Sermon on the
Mount and spoke of God's
promises and also from Hebrews
11 regarding Faith and closed the
devotional with prayer.
Mrs. Caldwell gave the :study.
Mrs. Roobal, the hostess, and
Mrs. Purdy collected the offering
which was dedicated by Mrs.
McAllister. Mrs. R. Errant
reported a bale of 11 boxes sent to
the London Mission. Mrs Tom
;Sherritt gave the Treasurer's
report. Lunch was served by Mrs.

United Church Service '
Thanksgiving Sunday was
celebrated at the United Church
Service with Rev. Don Beek in
charge and Mrs. John Turkheim
at the organ. The Thanksgiving
sermon was entitled "Job's
Thanksgiving and Ours", and the
•choir sang the anthem, "Now let
us all praise God and Sing".
Flowers were from the funerals of ,
the late Alvin Pressey and
Mrs .Annie Cole and the
Corn muriion Table - and
window sills were beautifully
decorated with fall vegetables
on the table.
Unit I U.C.W.
Unit 1 U.C.W. met on
Thursday afternoon, October 9
with Verna Hay presiding. She
opened the meeting with a poem
entitled "Thanksgiving".
Thanksgiving hymns were sung
with Belva at the piano. Verna's
devotional theme, "A peaceful
mind generatds power" was
taken from one of Dr. Norman
Vincent Peale's booklets, giving
many ' ways to gain a peaceful
mind by emptying your mind of
fears, hates, regeets and guilt
feelings. Words such as
"tranquillity, serenity" repeated
have' a healing potency;
everything passes away except
God. He alone is sufficient. .
Helen .Goddard gave a piano
selection. Roll call was answered
b'y fourteen members. Monthly
donation to our adopted child in
Burma and the offering was
dedicated with a Thanksgiving
prayer. A thank-you note from
Lois Shapter was read.

she said. The meeting closed with
Mispah the 'benediction.

Hensall town COutvil discussed
increasing vandalism in the
village during a *flouting Monday
night. It was revealed that street
lights and windows are being
broken by children with pellet
guns and stones, There have also
been ineidents of break-ins at
stores with merchandise being
damaged.
Council ,will attempt to find a
solution to the problem.
Council also passed a motion
requesting the Ministry of
Housing to ,conduct a survey in
the village to determine the need
for rent geared to income housing
for senior citizens. The council
agreed to contribute seven and '
one half percent of any losses
arising from the operation of such
housing.

The Ladies Legion Auxiliary
held their meeting on Tuesday,
evening in the Legion 'Hall with
Mrs. Mona Campbell-'presiding.
'The members decided to hold a
"Christmas Party" for the child-
ren on December:7th and also to
have the draw for the "Christmas
Money Doll". They will canvass
for the Institute for the Blind. The
mystery prize was won by Gerry
Chappel; the guessing prize by
Joan Beierling; and the attend-
ance prize by Iva Reid.

would be costly .to have a full-time
building inspector as well as
paying for the services of the
county plumbing inspector and

Building permits were issued to

sun deck and to S.G.Rannie to
remove old cupboards and
construct new ones. Dietmans
Bakery received a permit to
reconstruct the interior of a
garage.
Council approved the request
of clerk Bob Heil to purchase a
calculator. Prices will be obtained
on, the purchase of a calculator.
Pensions for municipal
employees were discussed.

anthem "Near To The Heart Of
God" accompanied by the
organist Mrs. Malcolm Dougall.
There will be no service on
Sunday, October 19th owing to
Anniversary services in Caven
Church, Exeter.
Mr. and Mrs. Jphn Reid were
entertained by their family on
October .4, with a small dinner
'par ty at the Bayview Inn, St.
Joseph, and later at a reception at
the Hensall Legion Hall to
celebrate their 35th Wedding
Anniversary. Abput thirty couples
danced to music provided by disc
jockey, Bob Duard, and the
couple were presented with a
.beautiful coloured family group "
photograph, and two bouquets of
flowers, gifts from the family and
kends present.
