Progress on the students'
lounge has been going really well.
Dave Smith and Alec Robertson
are the two boys doing most of the
work. They say they like it better
that way because each one knows
what he's supposed to do and
there's no conflict. I was talking
to Anna Lee and she says that she
has been talking to Mr. Shaw and
arrangements have been made to
get both a juke box and a pop
machine down in the lounge when
it is completed.
She also hopes that the floor
will be carpeted, if not with new
carpet, with old pieces that
people donate. Besides old carpet
scraps, the lounge needs any old
furniture that anyone might have
lying around. if you have either

The level font home economics
classes have adopted two
children. The first child is male
and his name is Sunil Victor. he
was born on August 16 and is ten
years old. He lives in India. The
second child is also a boy. His
name is Antonio Tadea Goltari.
He was born on August 11 and is
spring, with only the odd remark
being made about future plans for
a trailer park in that area.
Clerk Robert Franlin says a
park is a long-range plan that
depended on the need for more
housing and that the town would
like to see a developer take over
the project.
twelve years of agg. He lives in
Brazil. Each student in the home
ec class gives one dollar a month
and this money clothes and feeds
the child and his family. It's
funny that so little can provide so
much. The girls adopted the two
boys . through the Christian
Children's Fund of Canada. Miss
Teskey, the home economics
teachers, arranged it all.
Councillor Jim Crocker says the
extension of Spading Street
would make another exit out of
town. The town, he' said, doesn't
have a goal as far as when the
taller .park will be set up and it
could be built in stages as the
need arose.
A Need
"1 think there is a need in a lot
of communities for this type of
housing, as far as young people
starting out are concerned", he
said. Mobile homes have improv-
ed 'so much that they're' an
attractive alternative to perma-
nent houses, he said.
As tar as trailer parks go they
are a good way to control'
development so there aren't
trailers scattered .throughout an
area. Also certain uniform stand-
ards can be established in a
trailer park, fie said.
"Certainly it's not an answer
for everybody, but at least it gives
them a choice,"
He said council felt a trailer
SDHS is planning a variety
night, just like it used to have
years ago. So far the event is only
in the planning stages but Anna
Lee Stevenson hopes it can be
presented sometime after
Christmas. Anyone who can sing,
act, dance, read a writing or
almost anything is welcome, to
sign the list in the office. Even if
you don't have talent, you can
sign up for makeup or props or
whatever.
SDHS Holds Dance
The first dance this year was
held itrthe school gym last Friday
night, September 26 with
Mackenkie playing. The SDHS
president, was really pleased with'
the crowd that turned up. The
band cost $500 and she said that
even after that amount was paid.;
a profit of $390 had been made.
The next dance is scheduled for
October 24 with Bootleg playing.
Let's hope the next dance is as
great a success as the last one.
Student Spotlight
What better' student to feature
in our first spotlight than the
president of our student's
council, Anna Lee Stevenson?

she hasn't much time for school

Wednesday the cross country
team went to .g meet in Stratford.
Stratford Central was the host
and there were sixteen schools
participating.
SDHS senior girls won the
championship with a score fo 29.
There were about 60 - 70 runners
in this race. The race was 3,000
meters (close to three miles) The
results are: Mary Lammerant • 3,
Barb Doig - 6, Jane Ribey - 7.
Patricia Menheere - 13, Wendy
Dorsses - 18, Valerie Sinnamon -

all did really well.
The midget boys also had a
tough race and did really well.
The race was 4,000 meters and
there were 125 participants. Our
runners were as follows: Brian

The annual magazine campaign
is not going too well this year.

about $1500 worth have been

park would fit in with any future
development in that area of town
without being out of place.
When asked if he felt there was
a demand for that type of housing
in Seaforth, he said: "I think you
just have to look at the number of
trailers being Put in Egtriondville.
Deputy-reeve Bill Dale said a
trailer park isn't really in the
budget-yet, but it would be nice if
it could be done by next year.
When asked why the town was
considering the development of a
trailer park within its boundaries,
he said; "We feel it's another
service to people and since it
wouldn't be very far from the
industrial park, I thing the two
c6uld work well together."
When serviced
Mayor Betty Cardno said its
"not practical" at the moment to
develop the trailer park because
it's not serviced. She said sewaers
should be available in that area in
the next year or two and after that

SDHS Convenes Huron-Perth
This year it was Seaforth's turn
to host Huron-Perth tennis. Mr.
Johnston and Mr, Scott were the
teachers in charge. It was held at
Vanastra and there were, six
schools attending.
Two teams won their first round
match. They are Dale Nelson and

Anna Lee Steve nson, SDHS
president, has really been
disappointed in the participation
in the campaign. For every
subscription that each student
sold, whether a new one or a
renewal, the students' council
keeps one half of the profit. The
campaign was over Monday but
results were not totalled in time
for this printing. So there will be
more on this next week.

there would be no reason not to
proceed.
Mayor Cardno said she had
mixed feelings whether trailer
parks are really needed anymore.
At one time, it was one way to
control mobile homes in the town
who had difficulty in taxing
homes which could, sit op very
small lots.
So towns controlled trailers by
toning which would not let them
nto town unless they were in
'arks but most of the double
width trailers can fit into
nunicipal zonings now, she said.
"What we have to resolve is
whether the town should go
ahead with the park or let a
developer proceed. The town has
alreauy had inquries about the
trailer park, she said.
There is a strong indication that
a developer will buy or rent the
land from the town and develop
it, she said.

Boys Golf Wins Huron-Perth
Many congratulations go to the
SDHS golf teams on their
extremely good showing at
Huron-Perth this year. The boys
won the championship for the
second consecutive year and the,
girls were runners-up this year.
Members of the boys team are
'Cam Doig with a score of 70,
Steve Bennett - 73, Ed. Malkus
to install trailers moved, to
surrounding townships and this
avoided a crisis situation,
I don't knew if a trailer park is
necessary anymore. They are
certainly modifying them all the
time," she said. The designs,
widths and placement of the
mobile homes on a foundation
make them nicer than ever for
fitting into a community.
Mobile homes started out as a
home people could pull, and now
if the lot is b ig enough, and it is
on a foundation, they are
acceptable in the community.
Mayor Cardillo said a trailer
park could relieve the pressure
for rental housing and tt ' is
perhaps what the town should
aim for in setting up a trailer
park.
Economical
Mobile homes have been more
economical for the young and the

The mayor ,said she could see the
value of doing a survey like the
ones done by the province to
determine the need •for senior

Whether the town shoOld

decided.Mr.Crocker said a
number of small towns seem to
have handled such a project but
:!..veloPers have worked out quite
well too.
Mayor Cardno said once the
trailer park is set, the cost of
servicing the land will be worked
into the rental charges, as is done
with other types of subdivisions.
Anna Lee hopes to revive some of
the school's spirit which has been
nil lately. She talks of getting a
juke box and a coke machine in
the lounge downstairs, so maybe
this will help.
Volleyball, Basketball
The boys volleyball team did
really well in a round robin that
was held in Wingham. Exeter,
Wingham and Clinton were also
participating.
The basketball teams also are
doing well. The scores from their
last games are: Junior 10 - 36 for
St. Marys and Senior 35:26 for St.
M arys.
This is relly good because St. m
arys is a 'power house' in
basketball.
