Emily Fodor of Toronto, one of the van hosta, said that most visitors were "really enthused" about the sports information, films, video and tapes that the van holds. There is information on more than 50 sports, on how to play, on rules and coaching and on how start a club. While they were in Seafoith Travelcade staff offered two clinics, one TueSday night on badminton and one Wednesday night on cross country skiing. Recreation director Clive Buis% who invited the Travelcade here St.. Columban wins over St. Marys 6-1 St, Columban Soccer Club got back on the winning side of things this past Sunday, defeating St. Marys 6-1. This was a big victory for St. Columban after dropping their two previous games to Goderich ant London Carnival, both by 3-1 scores. As has" happened so often this . season, St. Columban started poorly against St. Marys, falling behind 1-0 after less than 1 minute had been played. How- ever, St. 'Columban came right back and by half-time were leading 3-1. Pat Delaney started things off, scoring on a well placed shot from his left wing position. Brad Finlayson then finished off the nicest play of the game on a pass from Delaney. The goal started iight from the St. Colum,- ban goal area with precise passing right up the field. Paul Coyne added the third goad before half-time when his shot was stopped by the St. Marys goalkeeper, but in so doing he carried the ball over his goal line. When the goal was whistled in by the referee the goalkeeper attacked a St. Columbah player and was then ejected from the game. In the second half St. Colum- ban continued to carry the play and before full time, shad Scored three more goals. Pat Delaney and , Paul Coyne each got their second goal of the game, along with Casey Van Bakel. About 16-came to the badminton workout and about six to the cross country ski clinic. Miss Fodor said Seaforth people who visited the van seemed most interested in soccer and tennis. She and the other hosts are health, ' 'fitness and facilities management graduates from community colleges. A driver and 'an. audio visual technician are included in the van staff. The only problem with the Seaforth stop, she said, was that Tuesday night some 'rowdy kids almost wrecked the van's outside speakers. Everything in the .van invites touching and' looking but Miss Fodor said that although there is no security system, nothing's been lost yet. Part of the original idea behind Sports Travelcade was getting sports know-how out to the people in small towns. They'd been in Goderich, Kincardine and Clinton and were going to Exeter. But John Van Rhees, another host, says that attendance in small towns often is a problem. He says they need a terrific PR job and theorizes that maybe the Travelcade should go to the cities first to build up peoples' awareness of what they have to offer. Then perhaps word about Travelcade would get back to the small towns and build interest, he says. Both hosts agreed that their second visits to a community would probably be really successful, because everyone who does get to the van is interested and impressed.
