come into the store and asked her
about the lids.
"All sound like they've already
heard the story before. It bothers
you when you have to say to

She said a lot of people still use
glass lids and it's mainly young
married couples who are looking
for the metal lids, as -well as'
women who must replace broken
glass lids.
So far the store hasn't had a
great demand for lids, but then
the season is. only starting.

Mrs. Schroeder said she has no

them."

The School Bus Stopping Law
changes September 1st.
Here are the new regulations
and what they mean to you:
246 SCU lis
00 NOT PASS
MIEN SIGNALS
FLASHING
t
Effective September 1st, all traffic from
both directions must stop whenever a
chrome-yellow school bus flashes its red
signal lights front and rear... regardless of
the posted speed limit, (The penalty for not
doing so is a maximum fine of $100 and 4
demerit points.)
The law applies everywhere—on high-
ways, country roads, and city, town or
village streets.
Until now, motorists going in the opposite
direction had to stop only when the posted
maximum speed limit was more than 35
miles per hour. But as of September 1st,
everyone must stop—except in one in-
stance: motorists going in the opposite
direction from the school bus on the other
side of a multi-lane highwaj, divided by a
physical barrier.
As a motorist, youmust drive with extra
care whenever you §ee a school bus in front
of you or coming tomiards you, because if
the school bus flashes its red lights, traffic
from both directions must stop.
If all of us observe this law our children
will be that much safer. Remember, school
bus safety is everybody's responsibility.
As a parent, encourage your children to
follow the school bus safety', rules learned at
school — helping the bus driver by behaving
quietly and keeping seated until it is time to
leave the bus.

She .said the store has placed
another order, but won't know if
it will get them until the order is
received from the wholesalers.
Bruce Hoelscher, of Seaferth
I.G.A., said the store placed an
order last October and when it
came last week, it was cut, "95 per
cent".
He ordered 25 cases and
received one case of standard'
lids. Earlier in the spring, the
store got one case of a complete
line including a case of rubber
rings, of tops, of jars, and of
lids.
This order was sent
automatically to all the stores. A
wholesaler got its second order
and split them equally between •
the stores.
He said he doesn't get enough
jar lids to advertise them because
after a few calls they're all gone.
Some home canners must be in
a bind especially those who are
not able to got the glass lids. ,
Mr. Hoelscher said a few
people ask if he h,as any
suggestion. "A lot may turn to
freezing, it's the only alternative
they 'have."
Mr. Hoelscher said he expects
the store to get lids in fits and
starts and expects the situation to
ease up a bit.
Local store operators seem to
be optimistic about the
availability of lids for the rest of
the year.
They seem to have been given
the word that more lids will be
available.

as early as November 3, and must
finish by June 26, 1976.
Huron County got a LIP grant
