In the 7th Doug Mitchell was the first man up and hit a homerun, at • least everybody thought so until the umpire called him out at home plate. That made the rest of the Winthrop Bantams get a little fired up and they scored 5 big runs to taice a 16 to 15 lead. Brussels managed 1 impo'at-' ant run to tie the score at 16 to 16. Kirk Hussey 'won 1, lost 1, had no saves and made 3 appearances. John Blanchard won 1 lost 2, saved 1 and made 5 appearances. Danny McClure hacrno wins, 1 loss, 1 save and made 2 appear- ances. The Winthrop Bantams called up 3 PeeWee players during the regular season. Danny McClure appeared against Brussels and Bluevale. Hitting for Matthews team were Katie Teall and Gail Price each with a triple and hitting for Little's team were Helma Wright with a triple and Marg McCauley with a triple and home run. The late game saw Jane MeNaughton's team defeat Carol Lobbs team 18-7 to clinch 3rd place. Late Game The late game saw the Travellers have no trouble in disposing of a lifeless Queens nine as the Travellers walked to a convincing 20 - 3 win. Jack .Ungarian went the distance for the Travellers as they struck for a total of twenty-one hits and continue to spark as they are making a late charge for second place.The Queens again showed they need help as they remain winless and mired in the league cellar. 400, At the Optimist Park Texaco moved into a tie for second place as they handed the Teachers a 13 to 7 loss. The Duffers struck early as Bob Dinsmore's triple and home run moved them into a comfortable lead. However, the Teachers showed ,some fight as they moved to within a run in the sixth inning but couldn't contain the Duffers bats. They* ended a two game losing streak. Mike Marion went the distance Shamrocks i n playoffs The Dublin Shamrocks Girls Junior Softball team completed their first season play in the Mid *Western Ontario Ladies -Softball League July 23 with a 8 - 5 victory over Ohsweken. Thisovas the first year for the team in' this league. For a 'first year team, Dublin did quite well, ' winning 5 and losing 9. This 'record allowed them a 5th place tie with Kitchener Civitans in the 8 team league'. `Dublin will meet y Waterloo thosts in the first round of play-offs. This will be a• best 2 of 3 series. The winner will play the winner of Kitchener Ohsweken in the final 3 of 5 series. At the greens _ _ Twenty-two bowlers enjoyed bowling on Tuesd4 *evening and winners were Ladies 1st Mary Finlaysor with 2W plus 32 with Rachel Riehl second with ' .2W plus 23. For the men Elmer Townsend was high,with 2W plus 30 with Art Finlayson 2nd with 2W- plus 27. Thurflay evening last week saw a good turnout of bowlers and high lady was Eileen Adamson with 2W plus 15 and Aatie Phillips 2nd with 2W plus V. High for the men was Neil Bell with 2 plus 25 with Dr. P. Brady second with 2 plus. 10°. Several local rinks participated in Goderich Canadian Tire • Tournament on Monday, August 4th and taking first place were Mark Gillil and Brenda Finlayson with 3 W plus 49 one plus of 9. Some of our pen are bowlilng din * mens' doubles in Clinton on Wednesday* afternoon- .and on Sunday, August 10th at 1:30 p.m. will be mixed doubles bowling for the Lorne Dale Trophy. We hope for a good turnout of local bowlers. A' hearty welcome is extended to any persons interested in bowling. Local jitneys are •every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday Evenings. In the Ty ke Division the winner was Greg Riley of Seaforth, riding `his pony, Champ. Greg ',had a total of 20 points. Runner up was *Jennifer Johns of Auburn. In the Intermediate Division Kim Riley placed first with 15 points. Kim won her points riding her Quarter H orse Mare. Cotillion Bar. .A close runner up w as Patti Muegge of Seaforth, with a total of 13 points. In the Senior Division, two .sisters will compete in a pole bending race at the next ymkhama to decide the 'winner, as both Michell and LynirFloWe. rs have a total of 12 points. Michelle rides an Arabian gelding, Myguy, and Lynn rides a Quarter Horse mare, Baleo's Lyndy. Both these horses are pleasure type but probably in the next few weeks, there will be two slow pleasure horses pole-bending in ttie arena at the- f*awers Farm. The next Horse Show is' in Dungannon on August 9 and August 17. 1,4 The girls are having a great time playing and due to the coaching of Judy Morgan and managing of Joe Cronin, the team has been a first year stkcess.
