They tried hard but they lost
Artistic Director James Roy has
accounced that the enthusiastic
responce and support received
from Blyth and the surrounding
area has assured a second season
next year. Attendance. during the
first three weeks of the Festival
has been higher. than expected.
Encouraged by this initial
success, the Blyth Summer Fest-
ival plans, next summer; to -
extend its season and expand the
professional company. There will
be an increased number of .

tams lost their 4th in a row. They
dropped the game to Moncrief 16
to 4.
Moncrief had 3 players that
scored 3 runs. Winthrop's leading
score was Doug Mitchell with 2 cf

Moncrief lead 5 to 2, in the 2nd
inning it was 6 to 2 for Moncrief.
Then in the 3rd inning Moncrief
scored 6 runs to take a 12 to 3
lead, The score stayed the same
for the 4th. In the 5th Moncrief

League play resumes on Aug.

St. Thomas.
Chad Ward had ten s!. lkeouts,
pitched the whole game and was
given the win. Kirk Hussey struck
out 7, pitched the whole game
and was given the loss.
The Winthrop Bantam's have
one game left, a repeat of a gan,
which was rained out on June 4th

members have been active lately
in out of town tournaments.
Two rinks attended Goderich
.ladies doubles last Wednesday
and Ella Munro and Jean Lunn
placed second.
In the M&M at Stratford on
Saturday two mens tribles' rinks
won prizes.
The Lawn Bowling Club had a
put luck supper on Tuesdayght
and 30 stayed to bowl. The
winners were Ladies 1st: Helen
Connell with 2w plus 27 2 and
Eileen Adamson with 2w plus 27
1. For the men, Lorne Dale. won
first with 2w plus 24 and Brett

Finlayson second with 2w plus 24.
Two rinks plan to attend the
mixed trebles tournament at
Brussels Wednesday evening and
some men have entered mens
doubles in Exeter WednesdaY
afternoon.
Congratulations to Tom Phillips
who was runner up in the second
stage provincial singles play
down. He wilPnow advance to the
Summer Games to be held in
London on Labour Day weekend.
Members will bowl on Wednes-
day August 6th for the Whitney
Trophy and August ,10th at 1 p.m.

trap by Agatha Christie. Theatre
Passe • Muraille's Farm Show
visited for one performance, and
The Chantecleer Puppet Theatre
performed two shows for children
A country Cabaret, staged at The
Goderich Jail and Blyth Memorial
will wind up the season. Paintings
by professional artists Guenter
Heim and Jim Marlatt, and works
in pewter by Lotte Zonnenberg
were on display ,during the
season. Workshops for children
and adults were conducted by
the company on Saturdays.

McGavins
meet at
Lions Park
The Lion's Park was the
chosen for the McGavin reunion
on Sunday, July 27. There were
42 present.
Races and games were played
followed by a smorgasbord
supper.
Mr. Fred McGavin was the
held at the same location in July
1977.

game 'was Marie Little's team

18-16 to tie for 3rd place. The

The late game was played in
less than an hour with Joanne
Mathew's team beating Carol
Lobb's team 18 to 2 and tieing
Lobb for 1st place. Hitting for
Mathew's team was Mathews
with a home run, Gail Rice with a
'home run and Marg Van Dyke
with a triple. Marg also pitched a
very good game and helped
herself by making a lot of put outs
herself.

Conroy defeated Brodhagen
Brewers 7-4 on July 23 in an
OASA scheduled game when
winning pitcher Mark Daoust
allowed 7 hits and the losErCalvin

The next night, Thursday.
Brodhagen defeated Brussels 12-
4 when the winning pitcher Doug
Leonhardt allowed 6 hits and•had
15 strike outs. Frank Stretton for
Brussels had 12 hits and 7 strike
outs. Leading batter Ron Scholl
scored 2 singles and 2 home runs.
Ken Rothie of Brussels scored a
double and a .single.
The Brewers next home game
is on Tuesday August 5th when
they meet Wellesly in the first
game of the °ASA', playoffs.
Continentals
win in soccer
Seaforth Continentals met with
stiff competition from St. Colum-
ban on Thursday in league play.
Seaforth finally came through to
take the game with a score of 2-1.
The goals were scored by #8 Mark
Underwood and #9 Johnny Niel-
sen.
Minors
win, lose
Roy Swartz's Pee Wee lost a
close one to-Seaforth on Wednes-
day night, 2-1 and. are now No: 2
which is considered excellent for
the first year. -
The Joe Visser Mosquito's are
still undefeated as they took
Seaforth 6-0,' Keven Coyne being
the big gun with 5 goals.
The Bantams, however, to date
have not been so successful with
only one win, but have some
cancelled games to play. Much
credit should be given to the
coaches of those teams. We hope
they can continue next year. We
understand the team uniforms
which were ordered early in the
season have just arrived.
This is International Women'S
Year and nowhere is women
power felt more stronglythan at
the Lion's Pool.
This year, the ppol and booth'
staff is totally composed of
women.
