PICNIC AT VAN EGMOND HOUSE — Huron County lawyers were guests at the
Huron Medical Society's dinner honouring retired Clintonian Dr. Walter Oakes at

Area lawyers and dentists
joined The Huron County Medical
Society for dinner and an evening
at the Van Egmond house in
Egmondville Wednesday night.
The event, which followed an
afternoon of golf at the Seaforth
Golf and Country Club, was held
to honour long time Clinton
doctor Walter Oakes.
Dr.Oakes, who is now retired
and lives in Parry Sound, was
presented with the Ontario
Medical Association Glenn
Sawyer Award. Dr. Sawyer, a
native of Fullarton Township who
was general secretary of the OMA
for 21 years, presented the award
in person.
Huron County lawyers were
invited to the event because Dr.
Sawyer, now retired from the
OMA, has just completed his
second year of law school at the
Out of town visitors with Miss University of Weitern Ontario.

Grand Master during a ceremony
at Brucefield 1.0.0.F. Hall on
June 25 when the installation of
officers for Huron District #8 of
the Independent Order ' of
'Oddfellows was carried out.
He was installed by Bro. John
Broadfoot, Brucefield and
assisted by Bro. R. K.
Williamson, London.
Bro. Warden Haney, Seaforth,
was installed as District Deputy
Grand Warden by Bro. Allan
Campbell, Seaforth.
Bro. John Moffatt,Brucefield
was installed as District Deputy
Grand Secretary by Bro. Charlie
Hay, Hensall.
A large attendance was present
for the meeting including some of
the newly elected Grand Lodge
Officers. Those present were Bro.
E H athaway, Sarnia, Grand
Master of Ontario, Bro. John
Broadfoot, Brucefield, Grand
Warden of Ontario and Bro. Don
McGregor, Exeter, Grand
Patriarch of Ontario.
Following the meeting a
fellowship hour was held and
parade. lunch was enjoyed by all.

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism
was administered by Rev. Don
Beck at the United Church on
Sunday, June 29. Presenting their
children for Baptism were Mr.
and Mrs. peter Bisback with
Victoria Whitman and Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Gardner, with Brian
DOuglas. Godparents for Brian
Douglas were Mr. Malcolm
Madson and Miss Diane Gardner.
Relatives of Peter and Janis
Bisback were present from Fort
Erie, Selkirk, Strathroy and
Seaforth. Relatives of Lester and
Kay Gardner were present from
Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobal
visited the latter's brother, Mr.
Anthony Gelderland of
Ridgetown, at the beginning of
the week andto3k in one of the
Centennial Days.
Holy Communion was
administered by the Rev.
G.A.Anderson at St. Paul's
Anglican Church on Sunday. The
flowers were in memory of the
late Mrs. David Blackwell.
Mr. Charles Mickle, Hamilton,
visited with his mother, Mrs.
Laird Mickle over the weekend.

successfully completed her first
year, of Nursing at Lambton
College and is employed at the
Bluewater Rest Home, Zurich, for
the summer.
Miss Julie Heal has accepted a
position at Western University
with the Department of Business
Administration as a private
secretary.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Geddes
and son Daren spent the past
week end with their parents Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Geddes.
Mrs. Nellie Cook and Miss
Mina McEwen of London were
recent visitors with Mr. Inez
McEwen.
Miss Sheryl Riley of
Chiselhurst has accepted
employment with Drysdale's
Home Hardware Store.
Miss Mary Buchanan , R.N., of
Toronto visited with her sister
Mrs.George Armstrong this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
McNaughton of Mitchell were
recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Glenn Bell.
The annual Oddfellow and
Rebekah picnic will be held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs.Eniie
Chipchase on July 13th. All
members and their families are
cordially invited.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett had
as dinner guests on Sunday Mr.
and Mrs. Hugh Morenz,
Dashwood, Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Corbett and sons, Mr. and Mrs.
Al Corbett and son ,,it being the
former's birthday.
Carmel Presbyterian Church
and Hensall United Church met in
Carmel Church on Sunday for
worship when Rev. Glenn Wright
of Exeter United Church was in
charge of the service. Mrs.
Malcolm Dougall and Mrs. Edith
Bell sang "Cleanse Me". Miss
Linda Bell accompanied at the
organ. The flowers in the
sanctuary were placed in memory
of the late Mrs.. David Blackwell.
On July 13th Rev. Harold Snell of
Exeter United Church will
conduct service at 11 a.m.

Church service was conducted
on Thur sd; y morning at 10:30
a.m. with Rev. E.S.Stephens of
Brucefield. Miss Doris Wills read
the 23rd Psalm and hymns
"Showers of Blessing", 'Sweet
Hour of Prayer" and "Pass Me
Not" were sung with Rev.
Stephens accompanying at the
piano. Following the message the
service ended with prayer and the
16' benediction. Thirty-six residents
attended the service)
Friday at 1 p.m. Father Laragh
visited and administered Holy
Communion to members of his
faith. Father Laragh has returned
from a visit to the Holy Land and
brought greetings from His
Holiness the Pope. All residents
welcomed Father Laragh back.
The fortieth annual Harrison
Reunion was held on June 14th
with a very good attendance at
Seaforth. The afternoon was
spent in races, contests and a ball
game. A smorgasboard supper
'i ncluded
served in the pavillion, which
'included a special cake decorated
for the fortieth anniversary. A.
minutes silence was observed for
those who had passed away in the
previous year. The picnic is to be
held at Seaforth Lions Park on the
• second Saturday in June 1976.
