RETRIEVING SOME REFRESHMENT — Grant Tyndall of London camped in the
Lion's Park during Centennial weekend. There were about 10 to 15 tents erected in
the Park Sunday and he said the facilities were good. (Staff Photo)
Let us then be up and doing
Pay our mite however 'small
Or when' the snows winter
strike us
We will have no pants at all,
Pants that once were black and
glossy
Now of stripes of different hue
All because subscribers linger
And will not pay up what is
due.

Hikers visit
former Rock
Glen Power
More than fifty people attended
the "Hike Through the History of
Rock Glen", on Sunday, June 22
at the Rock Glen Conservation
Arc% near Arkona. The Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation Authority
organized the hike as a part of
their Information and Education
program.The hike was planned so
that those interested could learn
more about the geology -and
history of this very popular area.
The hike began at 2:00 p.m.
from a display set up in the
parking lot. The display consisted
of an extensive fossil collection
consisting of the various fossils
found in the area. Maps of the
park, a cross section of the
underlying rock strata and scenic.
pictures of Rock Glen completed
the display where people
gathered to take a look, ask
questions and pick up a variety of
brochurs on hand.
Roger Martin, Resources
Manager of the Ausable-Bayfield
Conservation Authority explained
the geology of the area' and the
presence of fossils which are
famous all over North America.
During the walk through the
conservation area, which lasted
about an hour, the hikers visited
the site of the old grist mill and
the former Rock Glen Power Co. •
dam. Their attention was also
drawn to reforested areas,
erosion control devices and areas
where future park development is
planned.
The hikers covered
approximately 20% of the
sixty-six acre, property which was
originally acquired by the
Conservation Authority in 1954
and enlarged in 1970.
Over the year the scenic beauty
accompanied by the historical
features have made Rock Glen, a
very popular Conservation Area.
I n 1974 over 34,000, people
visited the area.
