Hikers visit former Rock Glen Power More than fifty people attended the "Hike Through the History of Rock Glen", on Sunday, June 22 at the Rock Glen Conservation Arc% near Arkona. The Ausable- Bayfield Conservation Authority organized the hike as a part of their Information and Education program. The hike was planned so that those interested could learn more about the geology -and history of this very popular area. The hike began at 2:00 p.m. from a display set up in the parking lot. The display consisted of an extensive fossil collection consisting of the various fossils found in the area. Maps of the park, a cross section of the underlying rock strata and scenic. pictures of Rock Glen completed the display where people gathered to take a look, ask questions and pick up a variety of brochurs on hand. Roger Martin, Resources Manager of the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority explained the geology of the area' and the presence of fossils which are famous all over North America. During the walk through the conservation area, which lasted about an hour, the hikers visited the site of the old grist mill and the former Rock Glen Power Co. • dam. Their attention was also drawn to reforested areas, erosion control devices and areas where future park development is planned. The hikers covered approximately 20% of the sixty-six acre, property which was originally acquired by the Conservation Authority in 1954 and enlarged in 1970. Over the year the scenic beauty accompanied by the historical features have made Rock Glen, a very popular Conservation Area. I n 1974 over 34,000, people visited the area. • • OOOOOOOOOO • • OOOOO Billy Haely and The Comets 11:45 Mery Griffin THURSDAY, JULY 10 • 12:45 "Under Ten Flags" -Van Heflin, Charles laughton 9:00 "A Tattered Web" - Lloyd Bridges, Ann Helm 1 1 :45 Mery Griffin FRIDAY, JULY 11 12:45 "The Cobra" - Dana Andrews, Anita Ekberg. 1:15 "Amourous Adventures of Moll Flanders-Kim Novak, Richard Johnson.
