building is still there and was most -recently used by' Louis Oosterbosch. The
Expositor's first home was on the third floor of the building that now houses
Beckers.

McLean who came to Seaforth
from Cornwall and_ Ayr. •
The Ross of the firm went on to

:Premier of Ontario, while Mr.
• Luxton moved West and a few
yeats later founded the Winnipeg
Free Press.
In December, 1870 the business
' was purchaSed by, Mr. McLean
and his brOther, Alan McLean,
and the name was changed to The
Huron Expositor, Within two
years, Alan MeLean, because of
ill health, was forced to resign
and the business was carried on
by M. Y. M cLean who continued
as editor Until his death in 1916.
Mr. McLean represented HUron
-and the Provincial Legislature
and the House of Commons for
several terms.
On' the death of M. Y. McLean
in 1916, Keith M. McLean, who
had been associated with his
father for many years, became
editor. Mr. McLean continued as
editor. until his death in 1948,
when the management was
assumed in turn by his son,
Andrew Y: McLean, the third
generation of the McLean family
to publish the paper. A. Y.
McLean, like his grandfather, is a
former member of the House of
Commons when he represented
Huron Perth Riding: He is a past
president of the Ontario Weekly
Newspapers Association and of
the Canadian Community
Newspaper Association. ,
• In January of this year Mr.
McLean ' s daughter, -,Susan
• White, became editor while he
continued as publisher. Mrs.
White thus becomes the fourth
generation of the McLean family
to edit the paper and the first
woman to hold the position.
In 1969 after' more than a
hundred years during which the
, paper was printed from metal
type, the Expositor plant• was
converted to offset in which the
reading , material is set by
photography on strips of paper
and arranged in page font's which
in turn are photographed. A
metal printing plate iS prepared
from the negatiVe and from this
the papers are printed in a central
plant --in -Gozler1els:—fie -new
process makes possible the Use of
more picture's and presents a
sharper type face.
In 1972 McLean Bros.
Publishers Limited purchased the.
Brussels Post and this paper now
is produced each week in the
Seafoth plant.
During these years many
members of the staff hve
contributed to the paper for long
periods. Included among these
are metnbers of the Weiland
fatiilly several of whom were
employed with the Expositor as
also were the Pincell brothets,
Joseph and Easil. The late
George LoVe began his miter at
The Expositor and Alex Lowry
