Reader from Arizona remembers Seaforth PLOUGHING‘IN MUD — Remember when Seaforth area fields turned into a sea of year but hopefully will visit mud forthe 1966 International Plowing Match? Seaforth before too long. - It was the very nicest place a "kid could grow up Gilbert Coppin El Encanto, 230 2820 East Sixth Street Tucson, Arizona 85716 Greetings from Arizona - (God's Country) - I have had a busy winter with lots of Canadian guests including my Seaforth relatives Jim and Dorothy Scott. I have been re reading my Expositors for the reunion and enjoying them. My great grandfather Carmichael was mentioned - also my father John W. Livingston of the "Hurons" - I really enjoyed Ethel Beatty's remembrance as well as Walter Murray - I remember " Azzie Ault" - among others - I have some photographs that I will send some time - possibly for the museum - There are two things that I remember well - one is the great plays that were "put on" by the townspeople - Like the Victory Concert by Mrs. Mullin and one based on Alice in wonderland - with Dorothy O'Connell as Alice - I have pictures of "The Old Maids Convention" - 1903 with many familiar faces to me in it - one was a very young Beth Willis Bechley - a couple of Laidlaws and S.I.McLean and possibly a Young - and of course my mother - MrS. Murless Jones present ed. many plays - and• Annie Govenlock's sight singing' class - did one a year - This was a part of Seaforth that made happy memories for me ri. The other "thing" is - that I think Hannah Isobel Graham should be especially honoured - I thought that she was considered one of the outst anding poetesses of her time. - There were several artists ••; Susie Govenlock - Ethel McLean - Alva Graves - Muriel Willis who added some beauty to our wills - (Mine even in Arizona have some.) It would be impossible to do justice to all the "beautiful people" who contributed to the culture of Seaforth including Sara Isobel /McLean, who had a profound effect upon thelives of so many. I was wondering why you couldn't have a yearly memorial paper possibly in July. 'I no longer subscribe to , the Expositor because its only the "old and esteemed" residents who died that I know - except for the 50 veal' aeo column - . I will not be at the Old Boys this Happy Birthday- Seaforth! - We 3 re proud to have been part of Seaforth's growth over the past 20 ye 3 re) and look forward to gr tiling with the town in the future. Congratulations Seaforth from the people at JOHN H. MaLWAIN SAND GRAVEL BACKHOE EXCAVATION THE HURON EXPOSITOR, JUNE 26, 1975 —7 rx
