She was unable to get out of the car as she had a dislocated hip. In a ceremony two weeks ago the OPP presented Mr. Rimmer with the Commissioner's CitatiOn for his; action. Knocks Hydro's growth plans conservation." Ontario Hydro's planned Lake Huron Nuclear Generating station would produce 3000 megawatts and Mrs. Chefurka concludes "I say it is unnecessary , even if one never looks at- the environmental factors." • She said an NDP government would gear down the growth rate in elecricity use to "say 4% by ,1982". She said that even this growth rate provides for' a doubling of use of electricity per person every 30 years." "By letting Hydro grow on the basis of its projections, between 1982 and 1993, it would build 15 new plants, the smallest of which would generate more power than the Niagara River. Using the scaled down projections I have ' just proposed would require only six new plants. Anything more is madness." NDP preiident The only woman political party president in Ontario was in Clinton Wednesday night and she took some big swipes at Ontario Hydro's energy policies. Pat Chefurka of Komoka, president of the provincial NDP spoke to the Huron Middlesex riding NDP nomination meeting. Mrs. Chefurka, a former physics teacher at the University -of -Western Ontario in London, said Ontaro Hydro's planning is based on a growth rate of 7.3% every year, a rate that has not occurred "since the energy hinge of the 60's." The maximum growth in hydro consumption in the province has actually been 6.4% , she said. In addition, Ontario Hydro keeps 'a 28% power reserve, above and beyond the annual growth rate, even though the Ontario Energy Board recommended this reserve be dropped to 23%. Mrs. Chefurka said that if Hydro dropped their reserve to 23% and built according to the actual increase in power consumption, power needs in the province could be dropped more than 3,000 megawatts "even if we did absolutely nothing towards Brucefield Sharpe's Maintenance Service SEAFORTH PHONE 527-1746 GILSON TRACTOR WITH NE REAR DISCHARGE MOWER!
