Mrs. Laverne Godkin played a couple of numbers with her trumpet accompanied by Mrs. Ray fiuether at the piano. Good toe-tapping music was provided by Mrs. Bert Elliott at the piano, Mrs. Emerson Mitchell on the violin and Ted Elliott with the electric guitar. Ted also pleased the audience with a •couple of his step dancing numbers. This entertainment of good music and good talent was much appreciated as indicated by a hearty applause. Mrs. Don Achilles, the new president, conducted the meet- ing. Minutes were ready by Mrs. Ken McDonald, followed by the treasurer's report. An invitation to attend the Spring Tea at Huronview on June 4th was read, also from Bluevale W.I. to a May flower evening, May 29 and to Cratibrook t,, a service at Knox Church followed by a cemetery walk. There will be a. historical display at the church. A thank you note was received from William and Blanche Hudson. Mrs. Joyce Van Vliet reported on the W.I. bus trip that will leave Walton, June 4, to visit the Elmira Mennonites area. A new member, Mrs. Herman Plas was welcomed into the Institute. Mrs. Achilles pre- sented Mrs. Allan McCall with a gift for her leadership of the past two years. Mrs. Ken McDonald reported on the Area Convention at Waterloo and Mrs. A. McCall gave a report from the District Annual in Ethel. The June meeting on. Agricul- ture and Canadian Industries will be the Grandmother meeting, as Women's International year. Lunch was served by the hostesses - Mrs. Harold Bolger, Mrs. Allan Wean, Mrs. Roy Huether and Mrs. Mac Sholdice, Personals Mrs. Gary McMahan and Todd from Kitchener spent a few days last week at the home of Don and Mrs. Achilles. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart McCall and Mr. and Mrs. lass McCall have arrived home from a visit with: Jack McCall at Montague, P.E.I. Mission Band members were reminded of their annual outdoor sacutnivdia.tyy meeting this coming Mr. and Mrs. Robert Humphries and family spent the . weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Humphries. Rev. Derwyn Docken attended the London Conference in Wind- sor last week. Mrs. Docken, Kristen and Mark remained with her mother, Mrs. James W. Daley at Blenheim. Church News The service Sunday morning at Duff's United Church was in charge of Rev. Docket) when his sermon was "Whose Church is this, Anyway?" The choir sang the anthem, "I Would be True, to my Saviour". Next Sunday Mr. E. Williams will take the service. On June 8th the 50th Anniversary service will be held at Duffs Huronview WI hosts birthday Mr. and Mrs. Eric Luther led a song service in the chapel Sunday evening sponsored by the Christian Women's Club. The Mathonia Family of Zurich provided a musical program on Family Night. George Mathcinia and his two sons, Raymond and Peter, play as a group and provide solo numbers with accordians. Margaret Kehn thanked the entertainers on behalf of the residents. The Bluevale Women's Institute were hosts for the May Birthday Party with.Mrs. Wendell Stamper emcee for the afternoon. Mrs. Donald Street and Mrs. Carl Johnston led a sing-a-long of action song and requests. Miss Karen Armstrong danced two Scottish numbessthe sword dance and highland fling. The twenty -two residents having birthdays this month received gifts from the institute and Mrs. Wagner who was celebrating her eightieth birthday on Wednesday expressed the appreciation of the residents. The Ladies of North Street United Church in Goderich sponsored a scenic drive and picnic supper at Menesetung Camp for their church members. Twelve • residents took advantage of the outing which they thoroughly enjoyed. Church. Several selections of different Thirty-one members answered Old cars coming to Brussels in June For the first time the Maitland Valley Region of the Historical automobile Society of Canada Inc., will bring its activities to Brussels. Usually they take place in larger centres. A Flea Market and Antique Car Show will be held Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8.These should prove to be interesting events for all those interested in antiques of any kind, and especially those who h ave a nostalgic fondness for antique cars. 1 , The antique cars of this group will be appearing, at a later date, in ,Centennial parades in Seaforth and Listowel and in other centres. The following history of three of the cars that will be here will be of special interest as they were sold by former Brussels dealers. Car History 1925 Star Brougham . . this car was originally sold to a Robert Maude of Fergus, another car of exact nature was sold to the late Obituary JOHN R. STURDY Huron County Justice of the Peace, John R. Sturdy died suddenly in Goderich last Mon- day. The 33 year-old man served both the County of Huron and the Province of Ontario from his position. Mr. Sturdy was the third member of his family to bold the ' post. His father, William Sturdy, was county justice of the peace until .his death in 1956 When his mother Olive Sturdyy.took over the duties until her ''S'On's appoint- ment in 1965, Police officers from the Ontario Provincial Police, and the Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth, Wingham and Exeter police departments formed' '\a special honour guard at Mr. Study's funeral. • Born in Goderich he is survived by his wife Karen (Mallough) Sturdy; children Jamey and Stephen, both at home; brothers Peter of Forest and Bill of Stratford; and his mother. He was a member of St. George's Anglican Church, the Goderich Kinsmen Club and the Goderich Fire. Department. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at St. George's Anglican Church. Interment followed in Colborne Cemetery. Marie called on Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wurdell and Mr. and Mrs.verne Wolfe and Mr. and Mrs.lorne Wolfe on Sunuay. At the same home were Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Rudolph, London and Mr. Peter Peterson, Strat- ford. Mr. and Mrs. Louis McIntyre Spent Sunday with her son Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hussey and family in Innerkip. Scott Schuesster who attends Waterloo University spent a few days with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Karl Schuessler and sisters. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Beuermann were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jacob, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Beuerrnann, Jeffrey, Dennis and Jill, London. Mr. Douglas Watson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Watson, Germany has finished his course at London University and spent a couple of weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Wolfe, his grand- parents and Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Wolfe and Dale. Douglas basJeft for his new job putting in swimming pools with his uncle Dub Watson in Cinncinati, Ohio for the summer months. Apparently Mr. Maude and late Mr. Tyerman did stabling for Superior Barn Equipment, this they installed in the Anderson Farm for the late Anderson Bros., James and Alex and received these two new cars in the transaction. The. Tyerman car, states Ken Tyerman, travelled well over the 100,000 miles without any major overhaul, while the Maude car travelled very few, this - car is now owned by Mr.C.A.(Sandy) Graham of Fergus and will return to Brussels for this event. Selling price new .. $1075.00 1928 Ford Tudor . . . this car was originally sold by the Brussels Ford Dealer, J. B. McIntyre and was owned by 'Harry Fryfogel of Wingham who was engaged in the Funeral Service. It was purchased by Syd Adams, Wingham Body Shop, and was used by himself and a Ken Baker for a parade car in various festivities in this area. The car was then sold to the late Ross Mann of Bluevale in 1955 for the sum of $125.00. Aft er years of use Mr. Mann sold it to Ted Stiles of Brussels. In 1969, Max Watts of Brussels purchased the car from Mr. Stiles. The car was completely restored by Mr. Watts and Don McNeil. ' Selling price new $495.00 1937 Chevrolet Business Coupe ..This car was sold new in Brussels, by the GM Dealer, Orval Whitfield to the late Jack Dickson, 11th Cone. Grey Twp on August 19th, 1937. The late Mr. Dickson drove this car many miles and in 1970 it was purchased 13} Don McNeil of Brussels. Don restored the car and drove it to many car meets, winning several trophies. In 1974 Don sold the car to Barry Herbert of Lambeth. This car is returning to Brussels to participate in the car meet.
