Despite some opposition to
changes in the provincial electoral
boundaries in the area, Liberals
from Huron and 'Middlesex
counties got 'together at the
Dashwood Community Centre on
Wednesday night and smoothly
0^ merge i their• allegiance to a new
Huron-Middlesex Provincial
Liberal Association.
Ian McAllister of Hay Town-
ship was named president of the
new association which will repre-
sent Liberals from 20 communi-
ties from the two counties. The
Middlesex municipalities of
McGillvary, Biddulph, East and
West Wilhain, Adelaide, Parkhill,
Ailsa Craig and Lucan have
with all ati.401KOes
in the present riding of Huron
with the' exception of Hullett and
McKillop. The two townships
have been placed in the new
Grey-Bruce riding. .
Meeting chairman A.Y.
McLean of Seaforth explained to
the 1,60 Liberal faithful attending
that while the new riding of
Huron-Middlesex had 'not yet
been, approved it was presently
before the Legislature and was
expected to receive finai reading
this week.
The only indication that the
new association is a combination
of two present ridings came in the
election of officers set out in the
constitution. Of the five vice-
presidents to be in office, three
must be from the Huron area and
two from the Middlesex area.
Municipal representatives from
both present ridings expressed
displeasure at the change but all
indicated that since it was very
likely to be approved, they would
have to make the best- of the
situation.. As Reeve Aubrey
McCallum of East Nissouri,
representing . the warden , of
Middlesex said, "We're against
the division but if we must be
divided we couldn't be ping with
a better bunch than Huron."
MPP Jack Riddell commented
that he thought the
boundaries would be pa ed as
presented and doubted if
Adelaide township would leave
the Huron-Middlesex designation
ti as has been conjectured.
The meeting adopted the con-
stitution of the Huron Liberal
Association ,with some changes,
including the stipulation that
three ,of the• vice-presidents be
from Huron and two fro'm
Middlesex,
Another change was the addi
tion of all chairmen of municipal
associations to the executive.
Also to be included on the
executive are the past president,
all candidates or standing mem-
bers and presidents of any federal
Liberal associations which may
include areas of the new provin-
cial riding.
Elected in addition to Mr.
McAllister were executive vice-
president Jean Adams of Bruce-
field and vice-presidents Beecher
Mepzies of Clinton, Don Oesch of
Zumh, Ken Duncan of Kirkton,
Mrs. Dean Gibson of Lucan and
George Wall-1r of Adelaide.
/16wardt.iten of Goderich will
continue as secretary while Gord
Strang of RR 3 Exeter will assume
duties as treasurer. Past presi-
dent is Dr. Morgan Smith of
Hayfield.
In' his acceptance speech, Mr.
MCAllister said he hoped all
would forget about being from

Vanastra residents are upset
with Tuckersmith Township
Council again and several
accused the council last Tuesday
night of ""selling off their
,heritage."
The dispute arose over a lot on
Victoria Boulevard in Vanastra
that was giyen to the Township
and then the Township last March
sold the lot to Vic Evans, who
owns a home next door.
Harvey Hammond of Vanastra
was present at the meeting, along
with Alton King and Robin Gates,
two other Vanastra residents.
The lot, which is too small for a
house to be built on it, was used
as a walkway by many . of the.
children of Vanastra, Mr.
Hammond said, to get to the park
behind the houses and to catch
the school bus.
Mr. 'Hammond said that Mr.
Evans has erected a fence and
won't allow the children to cut
across the lot.
"I could have had 50 angry
ratepayers here tonight, boys,"
Mr. Hammond, said: The children
now have to go around the park to
catch abus, and who is going to be
responsible when one of them is
killed?" Mr. Hammond wanted to
know.
,Mr. Hammond said that council
shou expropriate a piece of the
lot because the deed has gone
through to Mr:Evans.

The thought that the new
executive , would be too unwieldy
due to the addition of municipal
chairmen was refuted by Mr.
McAllister". "The ' more people
we involve, the more input we
have, the more successful we
should be" said Mr. McAllister,
who has been president of the
Huron Liberal Assocation for the
past year and a half. "In
addition, I'm looking for input
from all members of the associa-
tion, not only from executive
members."
MPP Jack Riddell,spoke briefl3
and indicated he had made the
decision to seek the position as
Liberal candidate in the next
provincial election. 'He praised
the efforts and "tremendous
organization" of the Liberal
association in the recent by-
election. • and said he hoped it
would repeat the effort in the
provincial election.
The election, Mr. Riddell
explained, could be' legally held
as late as fall 1976 but it was
thought to be coming this year.
"Over 90 ridings in Ontario
have Liberal associations already
organized" said Mr. Riddell, "we
are prepared."
It was noted that Mr. Riddell
was visiting area municipalities
regularly to make himself access-
able to anyone. He was sche-
duled to be in Zurich last
Saturday.
Executive vice-president Jean
Adams, speaking to the women
present, said she 'hoped they
weren't just there as half of a
family but as individuals. She
said the association was looking
for women to work in small
groups throughout the new
riding.
