That was just oneof the Colo0u),
details discussed at last
'Th'ursday's Centennial meeting.
The tartan mat erial is' "on sale
right now on Main Street"; Elva
Ellis .said; The skirts and vests
can be made-up by sewers at
bonne, the Centennial committee
suggest.
Five hundred hats have been
cut out, and 28 completed' when
the material for the brims ran out.
Home Ec students at S.D.H.S.
are making the hats for the
committee. Mrs. Ellis said: "I
hope they'll go alright. My neck is
in a noose if they don't."
Two hundred and ten yards of
material have already been
ordered and more is on order.
It was suggested a styrof.aam
hat be sold too for about 75 cents.
Rec Director Clive Buist,
chairman of the. Centennial
Committee said all businesses
should "make a push" to put
things in their store winclovvs
because it will add a lot of color to
the downtown . He suggested
antiques, pictures and old-
fashioned clothes as possible
items.
The meeting decided to hold a
contest on Monday, June 30 at 11
a.m, for the best costume. The
categories will include prizes for
men, women-, boys and girls.
Prizes and.. judges have not-
beet' chosen but this contest is to
encourage people to dress up in
old-fashioned clothes for the
Centennial.
The Centennial Committee will
approach the town council for
permission to keep Gouinlock
Street closed all weekend, to close
off areas for the prade and to
close off Main Street from
Highway #8 to Market Street for ,
Reporter here
for summer
By Nancy Andrews
If you've noticed a new face
around town, it might be mine.
I'm a third year journalism
student at the University of
Western Ontario and will be
working at the Huron Expositor
this summer. I'm from the
Windsor area, in particular from
Sandwich South Township, a
rural township bordering on the
city of livIssg• •
Two'. SOndayi ago, I collie to
Seaforth. Before coming I called
the bus depot and asked about
how long it would take to get to
Seaforth. A depot official said,
"On a Sunday, it's nearly
impossible l"
I got here, but it took eight
hourvs because I had to take the
milk run or the scenic route as'
others call it.
I'll be around town asking a lot
of questions this summer.
Hopefully be able to write
local interest stories, so if anyone
has any good ideas for a feature
let me know.

and thatiMusic will be piped in to
add atmosphere.
Mr, Carclno said merchants
want to upgrade the items sold at
this sidewalk sale, because in the
past a lot of inferior goods were
displayed.
Mr. Buist when discussing the
sale of lottery tickets for the 1200
club said: "At least we know we
have covered our costs,"
When later called, he said he
meant the committee covered the
cost of the prize money from
ticket sales from outside-of town.
You join the 1200 club , by
buying a lottery ticket that sells
for $10 with first prize $1,000,
second prize $500 and five third
prizes of $25.
Mr. Buist said the committee
plans to spend a total of $30,000
on the Centennial and of course
hopes to recover that money
through ticket sales for all the
events.
He said "We're not set up to
make money." Centennial is not
specifically to make money but an
attempt to offer people a good
week-end.
He suggested people look on
the purchase of a 1200 club ticket
as a donation.
On the Centennial weekend
Saturday at 6 p.m. a "posh"
dinner affair is being planned at
the Legion Hall. There will be
only about 200 tickets on sale.
The tickets will be $8 a plate for
a menu that the committee hopes
to molcolithet: special, including
wine.
