(Photos and capticins by Steven Travaglione) Pet gerbils found in garbage can one baby still missing WARMTH, ONTARIO, MAY Formal brings out Fair in their finest FORMAL QUEEN — Cathy Murray, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Murray, R.R.5, Seaforth was crowned queen of the formal at SDHS Friday night. Janet Scoft, left, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Scott, and Brenda Savauge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Ted.Savauge, both of Seaforth, were princesses. Allan is president of this year's student council at the school. (Photo by Sharon Rau) Studenft ..prepare for spring Gerbils! Gerbils! Gerbils! Before the snow storm, three gerbilugot out of their cage. Mr. Eisler, the care-taker found the father alive and well in the garbage can. There were still two missing. After two weeks of searching we were ready to give up. Mrs. Bell came in and said there was a gerbil in her cupboard eating a calendar that showed a picture of Jamaica. The Mother gerbil was back and the baby gerbils were happy- The other baby gerbil that is missing was seen in the cupboard in Room 7. Mr. Bishop has set a trap with sunflower seeds to see if he can catch it. Children from the junior grades come in after school to play with the nine gerbils. We hope to have the baby gerbil back soon. Sandra Neil Report on Lighting & Sounds This group is working hard and trying to create sounds for the play. They have hooked up flood lights and the group has been divided into seperate groups to get things done faster. They haven't figured how to set up the scenery lighting yet. A group has to figure out how to create a real looking fire for one of the scenes. Mr, Bishop feels as if he, was in a real production. In one of the 'scenes fog comes whirrling out onto the stage, Mr. Bishop and Mr. Carter think they could, use more students but they, are managing all right. Everyone is pitching in to solve the ,problems. The equipment is coming in fast. Mr. Carter is too shy to say anything to 'the reporter right now. Dwight Mennell Report on Acting In the first period they read the book and picked parts. In the second period they memorized parts. In the third period they changed parts. In the 4th. period they talked it over. In the 5th period they went through the 1st scene a few times. In the 6th period Mr. Carroll put "Goof" on the board because everybody was talking. They signed sheets for the parts they wanted to try out for. They are now preparing each scene, getting organized, discuss- ing each scene over. Costumes have been discussed and actors are practising their parts. Marg Montgomery Report on Stage Sets Mr. Snell and Mrs. Morton are the teachers in charge of Stage Sets: On April 24, Mr. Snell and some of the pupils were making picture frames in the Industrial Arts Room.. There are also some students in the gymnasium . making trees and other scenes for the production. - - Bryan McClure Report on Publicity and Tickets The tickets are made and they will soon be on gale to the parents and the public. Posters are being made. Please watch for them uptown in merchants' town store windows. The program is almost complete and ready to go to the Expositor to be printed. Our photographers are busy taking pictures at different times of different groups. Watch for these on the posters and in the newspapers. Walter Brown Report on Costumes & Make-up There are 4 groups. All the groups are working fairly hard:- the first group is,, making head bands for actors, vacuuming and polishing tables. The second group is cleaning the closets to make, room for all the costumes that are coming in. The third group is cleanin[Kupboards and closets in preparation for the boxes and boxes of stage make-up that will be needed. The fourth group is ironing, straightening material for costumes and polish- ing. Brett Finlayson Report on Choir The choir is making excellent progress. The piano players are Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Stewart. The songs .the Choir are singing are: 1. When I First Came to This Land. 2. There's A Fire Down Below. 3. All Through the Night. 4. Blowin' in the Wind. 5. Good Morning Star Shine. 6. Gaudeamus. 7. Something to Sing About. Miss Santos and Mrs. Bell are in charge of 1st Soprano and 2nd Soprano. ' Mr. Willis is in charge of the Alto. Ursula McFarlane STAGE SETS -FOR CONCERT — This is Mr. Snell working for stage sets. The two boys in the picture are David Hulley and John Nielsen for the sets. Club plans tent, tin cup camping Camping Trip The Outers Club is preparing for a camping trip on May 9th and 10th. The group bought plastic and rope to make tube tents. The club will leave by bus after school, to go to Mr. Jewitt's property on the Bayfield River near Varna. The students will be required to set up their tent, make their fire and cook their meali. We hope to do some nature study and maybe some • fishing. The club will return Saturday afternoon probably tired but happy. Duane Malcolm Miss Hoekstra Is Back Miss Hoekstra was in the hospital because her leg was operated on. She was gone for 4 weeks and we missed her a lot. She came back on Monday, April 21, 1975. We were glad to see her when she came back. Now she is our own teacher but She still has to use a cane for a few days. We are very glad because she is here. Janice Cairns
