Help make it an enjoyable time with this simple toy clock. Materials - 1-piece of thick cardboard cut into a circle approximately eighteen inches in diameter 2-thinner pieces of cardboard cut into arrows (ofie longer than the other) to make the hands of the clock. 1-eyelet large enough to go through the hands of the clock and • the clock and wide enough to hold the hands to the face of the clock. 1-set of water color paints Instructions 1.Paint the face of the clock with one color from the water color set, 2.Paint the numbers on the face of the clock making sure that they are properly placed. Then find the center of the clock. 3.Secure the hands of the clock to t face with the eyelet. 4.So that the child may learn time by s ociation, get him to cut out little pictures from magazi es which show various activities which he might do at a ,gi en time. (i.e: a picture of eating at six o'clock). Then paste the pictures directly on the face of the clock in the appropriate time slot. Consideration, cooperation and sharing are words used by adults to describe the way kind and gentle people in our sbciety should act towards their felloW man. Despite whatever the lady on Romper Room says they have little or nothing to do with the average young child. Often parents act surprised even shocked when they see their own children acting like greedy misers, hording and coveting their toys. Or fighting with other children over who owns this or that toy. They should not be surprised - nothing coulclbe more natural. 9 A young child is by nature an ego-centric or self centred individual.Everything and everybody in the young child's world revolves around him. He counts himself as number "one". His world is extremely small and closed to outsiders. All of his toys have a special and personal meaning. He plays in a small circle of friends (usually one or two) and he refuses to admit strangers. In short he is anything but a kind and gentle individual. Often parents or guaradians of young children make the mistake of expecting the child to be naturally considerate, to cooperate etc. Unfortunately when they do this they are seeing the child as a miniature adult. A child is a child is a child is a child. And he must go through very definite stages of development. One of these periods or stages of development can be called the selfish period. During this time the child is getting to know himself, And after-alliwhat could be more sensible than to first' learn about yourself before learning about the world around you. • ' This is not to say that parents should encourage their children to be misers. Rather that they should understand why they act this way and not to try and force the child into accepting these terms of living before the child is capable of actually understanding them. A child who sees his parents or older brothers and sisters cooperating, sharing add being considerate, will, thrOugh time' and experience, eventually accept these terms as his own. 4'x 8' TILEBOARD . :This tileboard is scored in 4" square design.
