A new member joined and another was presented with an Institute pin. Achievement Day will be in Zurich on May 3. Marlene Bell, District Director, gave the District Board meeting report stating the District Annual will be held in bashwood on May 15 - Kippen is responsible for a display. Mildred Chalmers, program convenor for Citizenship and Wprld Affairs introduced Mr. Ball from the Seaforth District High School Geography Club who commented on the trips taken by the Club. Brucefield United Church held the April meeting on Mon- day afternoon with 'Mrs. Muriel' Allan and Mrs. Elsie Keys in charge. Mrs. Allan opened the meeting with a reading "God is Love" followed by prayer. Hymn 64, "For the Beauty of the Earth" was sung with Mrs. Alice Ham at the_ piano. Mrs. Allan read 1 John, Chapter 3 "God so Loves the World". Mrs. Keys spoke on "Gdd is our Companion". The offering was received by Mrs. Allan and dedicated by Mrs. Keys. Hymn 285 "What a Friend We have in Jesus" was sung. Mrs. Allan gavejAanother reading and Mrs. Keys closed this part of the meeting with prayer. VerPa Sinclair commented on the motto "The shortest way te do many things is to do them one at a ' ,time". She closed with a poem, "Delinquent". The reports of Standing Com- mittees and other convenors indicated the Institute had had a very educational and worthwhile year. Films were shown on India, Philippines, Cuba and 'Behind These Doors'. Auto Insurance, Libraries and Crafts were dis- cussed. Members were taught several different crafts. There were skits, dance sessions and demonstrations. The Institute sponsored seven 4-H Girl's Clubs had a bus trip, Family Night, roll call contest, and had a Secret Pal. They had a Sunshine Sister at Huronview. Last year the group celebrated their fortieth Anniver- sary when former members were invited. Recreation News and Views Boys between the ages of 17.wishing to play lacrosse should attend lacrosse practices. The first one begins tonight, Apfil 24 at 7:00 at the Public School. The following practices will b held at the high school on Thursday evenings. Regiitralions forms may be picked up at-your schools or at the'. Recreation Office. April 28th is registration for baseball and softball this year. Boys houseleague baseball will be offered to boys 7 - 13, girls softball for 7 - 15 years and three travelling teams will be in operation, PeWees,Bantams and Midgets. All people interested should register between 6:30 - 8:00 at the Recreation Office. Coaches and managers are still needed. A number of crests for' Power Skating have not yet been claimed. Those participants who passed the variBus tests should pick up their crests as quickly as possible. Many parents have asked about the recreation programs being planned for this summer. Either a playground program or a day camp:will be offered. An application has been submitted for a grant which would allow us to operate a day camp in the area for children 6 - 14.
